Cheeky, if you can't justify the outlay for rgb cables or similar for all the consoles, try the composite cables, they are markedly better than the bundled ones and obviously a big step up from RF. They main thing I don't like about RF is the wavy patterns. Some people even argue composite is the correct cable by taste because various pixel effects like false transparency on the megadrive were based on composite interference patterns.

The cables I've got will do for now (I've spent too much money already), but they're the next step once I've got everything set up.

Shelving and all the other bits and bobs are coming today so hopefully I'll be able to get them up later on tonight. Pics will be inbound once it's all done.

I wound up with built in alcove shelving this time, one nice thing about old houses with loads of work done on them over the years, less boxy.

And games room isn't even a concept I have to fight about lol. I'm a very lucky man.

maybe not totally "retro", but I'm hoping someone in here might be able to help. I've started getting back into the Gamecube back catalogue recently, but my wavebird's have seen better days - Thinking it might be an idea to replace the sticks, does anyone know a decent place to buy some from, or is it just a case of grabbing some from ebay and they'll all be the same quality?

If you just need to replace the sticks, and not the whole sensor assembly, Amazon is a good place to get them.

For mine that are gummed up or going weird, sometimes a silicone pullover cap helps, in the meantime. I can't actually find this same Nintendo style profile anywhere but I'm guessing it's the mechanism you're having issues with..

Thanks guys  I'm thinking the actual mechanics of the sticks are okay, it's just the rubbers going a bit manky after years of use/disuse. Nabbed a bundle of sticks and a screwdriver from amazon, so I'll keep you all posted with how it goes. Hopefully the wavebird comes apart a little easier than a dualshock 4...

The engineering problem with them is, the parts have to be injection moulded in POM I believe, which is insanely expensive to produce moulds and pay upfront for MOQs.. so hopefully someone is doing that well, almost certainly in Shanghai, and it works for you! Might need to try a few kits, I've not done it myself.

If they're interchangble, it might even be worth swapping modules with the normal GC controller, keeping those as spare parts for existing GC controllers, or may need to solder a few points to PCB.. which isn't that hard. Looks like it's all socket connectors, which is piss.

From my own experience I haven't had any problems with the ones on Amazon. You can also get Gamecube-style replacement sticks for N64 pads from there, which is pretty neat.

What generally happens is the factory workers nick moulds or buy them up in dodgy auctions when lines are decommissioned so they can replicate the parts on the cheap forever.

Good news they work well, a few of mine are going weird. Piracy and China will keep us lot going for many years.

Ah! The Analog Super NT! It looks to be a terrific bit of kit, Hound. What colour design did you go for? And how are you finding the cart emulation?

I went for the Super Famicom style.

TBF - it's not using emulation as such. Emulation is generally software mimicking hardware, whereas this has hardware mimicking hardware (with extras!). There's no lag besides what your TV introduces. The picture is absolutely stunning. The sound is crystal clear.

This is a better solution for playing SNES cartridges on a modern TV than OG hardware than an upscaler (and this is from someone with an OSSC and a Framemeister).

These are just crappy pictures taken with my phone, but check out how this looks on a 4K Samsung

That does look incredible, Hound. I hadn't realised that the patent for the SNES hardware had expired and I love the idea of having an actual "new SNES" machine that plays the original carts. What a great thing to own!

So freaking jealous. I was tempted, but have never had a SNES collection (I had a Mega Drive), so it would be an extremely expensive pick up. Most of the software I'm interested in goes for silly money too (those obscure JRPGs). Did you incurr any customs charges? I assume it's region free too? Seriously envious.

Totally region free. You can choose whether to play in 50 or 60hz.

Thankfully I skipped customs. Analogue marked the value as 10usd without me even asking!

The rumour is that the Megadrive is the next Analogue project. Fingers crossed

Not sure it will happen with their business model but I'm gonna hold out for an analogue multi cart (like retron 5 but not gooseberry fool) FPGA solution.

Not that I even own any carts these days but still. :shifty:
