I've just discovered there's a retro gaming shop in Liverpool so I'll pop in tomorrow to have a look around

I just bought my first 2 SNES games in ages... :toot:

Firstly, Pop N Twinbee - classic Konami arcade shoot-em-up. Colourful, crazy fun!

Secondly, Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja - 2 played arcade platform mayhem! I have very fond memories of this game. It didn't review that well, but I loved it.

Both games mint and complete - £50 each...actually not too bad for SNES... :toot:

Your collection is really growing well, Andy! I have not played either of these but I always liked the look of Joe & Mac; apparently the gameplay s pretty simple but it just looked to be good fun.

Thanks! :)

I wasn't planning on buying any retro games for a while, but I had a mini windfall recently. Plus I've been working really hard and not going out, so I thought I'd treat myself.

I love Joe & Mac. It is simple, but it's just so much fun, and I have fond memories playing it with one of my best friends. It's got an amazing 2-player mode.

I now have 31 SNES games (all mint, boxed and complete) - my target is 50, so still some way to go...It's been a slow process with the SNES as the games are expensive (especially in the condition I want them in)...I've literally been only getting 2 or 3 games a year, if that (but hey, that's how it was in the SNES days as the games were incredibly expensive then)! :toot:

Sorely tempted to continue my SEGA spending by getting a Saturn bundle that I've seen on eBay. The Saturn is so mysterious to me, I've never even seen one in the flesh, let alone played one! I don't know anyone that owned one back in the day, none of my friends had one as everyone went with the PS1 (or hung on for the N64), so to have one in my fledgling collection would be awesome :D

My wife would kill me though :dread:

I think the console itself looks great, it's aged far better than some and you can really see where the Dreamcast got its looks from. Not sure about the controller though, thing looks fugly

Anyone else got or had a Saturn? Would appreciate any advice on what to look out for when purchasing.

For what it's worth, that's likely the model 1 controller you saw, the model 2 is much nicer and still considered one of the best pads for 2D games :)

Ah yeah you're right, that model is much nicer looking.

Edit: missed out on the Saturn by £2, annoyingly. I would gladly have bettered the final bid. C'est la vie I guess.

Saturn is a wonderful console to explore. However, most of the worthwhile games need to be imported and a few command a high price now.

Well, the entire "windfall" I got last week is now spent.

Just bought Actraiser on the SNES :)

Ok, that really is it. No more retro games for a few months.

(In my defence, I buy absolutely no new games nowadays...).

Guys, did you get to visit the retro game stores in Amsterdam / Liverpool?

The graphics looked great in that, Andy. I guess you've gone for a copy that is in excellent condition? Your collection is really smart now!

If you've been spending around fifty to seventy quid on a boxed SNES game then that seems reasonable considering you could easily pay that for downloading a new game / plus season pass on the console digital stores.

You know, I've slipped out of the retro gaming scene. My gear is in cupboards and not easily accessible whilst I've barely bought a retro title in the last five years. I still like the scene but I'm on the periphery at the moment and so I like reading about stuff that you guys are picking up!

Should have done my research on Ape Escape before buying it as it turns out the PAL version is one of only a handful of PS1 games that don't work properly on a PS3. You can get as far as the title screen and that's it. Looks like I'm gonna have to fork out for a second hand PSone or Slimline PS2.

Oh well, at least this wasn't as costly a mistake as the time I bought brand new copies of Legend of Dragoon and Chrono Cross from the US :fp:

I found a store in town that sells retro games and consoles, and it isn't CEX :o

I only had time to literally walk in and out but it's a little shop that sells second hand everything and they've got a few glass cabinets full of cartridges, seemed reasonably priced too, so I'll be checking that out on my lunch break in more detail. Hopefully they'll have stuff that's actually worth owning :toot:

Sounds like it's definitely worth a visit, Preezy - although I had thought you had moved into "totes cool" mode when you initially posted that you were "jacking it out" :toot: .
