Trelliz, I have a few average to above average PS1 racers in good condition I'd be happy to punt your way for postage alone, I've no interest in them really.

Thanks for the offer, but ps1 is where i tend to draw the line; stuff like gran turismo, wipeout etc to me look and play better on ps2+ without being different enough. I don't have a ps1 anyway and have had little joy emulating them.

Sure np. Certainly PS1 games look arse, the only halfway decent way of playing them today is on PSfat which is what I have.

I never had a ps1 so i have no nostalgia to push past the jank.

That's a good shout, too much tat though. PS1 games have a certain charm when blown up to about 28 inches square over HDMI, they look very clean. The PS3 handles the upscaling well. However, they still look like super advanced GBA screenshots at times. It's pretty damm neat that you can play 3 entire generations of games on a modern television with wireless controllers though, and half the ones you want but don't have, you can still download. It's a shame because Nintendo could quite easily have done this with the Wii U, but I understand one of the most expensive components in the Wii was actually its as yet unsurpassed dual disk slot loading mechanism that "eats" two completely different sized disks and reads 2 different formats.

To celebrate winning an unexpected contract for my business last week, I have treated myself to one more SNES game.

And it's quite a relevant one - the incredible Super Metroid! Got it in great condition in the big box with player's guide.

That was the last of the "essential" SNES games I wanted. Everything from now on can wait and is a bonus. This was the missing piece of my collection...and I finally have it (having previously sold my original copy years ago)!

Nice one, Andy - I remember looking at that big box in a store when it released and, for some reason, deciding not to get it . This could be a jewel in your collection .

Yes, it's a lot, but I have a feeling that this game will go up in value with the success of the new Metroid game, the SNES Mini, and the hype surrounding the new Metroid Prime 4.

So hopefully I've bought something that will increase in value with what will hopefully be a bit of Metroidmania over the next few years

I've also seen this game, in much worse condition, go for over £200.

Holy strawberry float the price. It's in good nick though and as you say, I've seen worse condition copies go for more.

Super Metroid is genuinely the last game I needed to re-build my childhood SNES collection

I now have 37 boxed SNES games. Whilst my collection target is 50, the remaining ones aren't that important...I have all the ones I wanted, which in my opinion are the best SNES games out there

I also had some good news last week work-wise after a tough month, which was the extra incentive to finally get Metroid.

I think my brother still has his copy which he bought a few years ago (for considerably less than that), It isn't quite as pristine as that one but still fairly reasonable.

My brother has the big box one with the strategy guide. I keep thinking that it may have included a copy of ALttP, but I might be wrong about that. He definitely got the two games at the same time.

I mentioned it to him yesterday and it turns out he only paid 50p for it.

I had a massive clear out, most of my double and triple consoles are gone.

Sold all my mega drive games, got over £400 quid for them, got an Ever drive for it.

Only collect for the SNES, Game cube, Saturn and Game boy really now, although I'm no completionist, just want the stuff I want.

Last really good bargain I got was a busted Vectrex for £40, was able to fix it up, cool machine, only have 2 or 3 games though.

Is there any interest in Speccy hardware and software? I have My old Speccy 48k, looking rid off, takes too much space.

The data geek inside me decided to conduct a largely pointless exercise over the weekend. I collated all review scores awarded by NGC Mag for my GC games and compared them against the MetaCritic average. Across my collection, NGC Mag awarded on averaged 87.7% per game in my collection in contrast to MetaCritic's average of averages 84.4%. Not too bad.

Have to say that, in the cases where there were >10 percentage points difference in scores (of which there were 9 instances), I found myself siding with NGC Mag's score most of the time.

If you're doing that I can provide you with all the scores from official nintendo and cube magazine from that period.
