Just treated myself to another N64 game (again mint and complete) - Mario Golf :-)

I had countless of hours of fun with this back in the day - it was the multiplayer game of choice for me and my friends, even above Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye and Smash Bros.

No Mario Golf game since has come close to the sheer genius, fun and playability of Mario Golf 64.

Indeed. I loved Mario Golf 64, and think I completed pretty much all of it/unlocked everything back in the day. I recently picked up Toadstool Tour on the GC and it's just awful in comparison. I played a couple of hours and haven't been back to it since. :(

Same here. Toadstool Tour was a huge letdown, and just didn't have the magic of Mario Golf 64...I think I only played it for 2 hours too, before never wanting anything to do with it again!

I was so excited for it too :(

Nice work! How much was your Mario Golf?

The reason I keep asking this, BTW, if it isn't obvious, is to give me some base prices when I eventually get around to assembling an N64 collection.

Totally mint, complete and new copy was £25.

That brings my N64 collection up to a total of 10 games. My most expensive purchase so far was Banjo Tooie at £70. Cheapest was Jet Force Gemini at £15.

I spent about £80 on the US version and a freeloader disc so I could play it early.

Instant buyers remorse.

Just completed Sonic the Hedgehog! :fp: The only Sonic game I have ever completed prior to this was Sonic Advance GBA, I'd never owned a SEGA console other than swapping consoles with my mates.

God some of the levels were hard in this, I can remember getting up to Labrinth Zone as a kid, but that and Scrap Brain Zone gave me some grief today.

In 2017 I'm going to try and play some classics I have missed and series that have completely passed me by.

Yes, by today's standards they are insanely hard games to complete on 3 lives.

The 3DS versions are quite nice as they have level select cheat built in.

Still enjoy throwing on Sonic on the MD though, dat authentic MD sound chip (if anyone doesn't use the MD Model 1's stereo output, you really should).

I always used to run a 3.5mm jack from the headphone socket to my little midi hi-fi for loud stereo with my megadrive, and when I got my mega cd I used the little mic cable for that and ran it via phone in to the same hi-fi

I remember having my Mega Drive connected up to a pair of speakers... man, the first time I played the Streets of Rage through it was just awesome. Sometimes I just used to slam in the cart and boot up the game just to hear the music, even if I wasn't actually gonna play the game  .

strawberry float trying to ever complete Sonic with three lives :dread: I bought the 3DS version a while ago and there's so much cheap bullshit in that game.

I nearly completed Sonic 2 with the base level of continues, but I kept dying on Chemical X zone so I was left with 1 life to complete the game from there.

Safe to say I got to the final zone and died on the boss.

I find Sonic 2's final boss by far the hardest thing out of all mega drive Sonic games, it's ridiculous that you have to fight metal sonic with 0 rings and then Robotnik in his robot thing still with 0 rings.

Took me so long to beat sonic 2 without cheating but I finally did it after a few months of getting it. Now when sonic and knuckles came out the first thing I did was plug sonic 2 in to play as knuckles (I'd been so hyped reading you could do this for weeks so I couldn't wait to try it). I only meant to try it out but I ended up playing the entire game in one sitting and I swear to you I did it without losing a single life :datass:

Even better is I tried to play it via emulator a while back and got game over a few levels in :fp: :dread:

Haha, didn't realise there was so much retro sonic love.

I want a copy of Sonic and Knuckles, is it just me or it isn't available on Steam for some reason, or in America, is it "Sonic 3 and Knuckles?"

Yes the end of Sonic 2 is ridiculous, I haven't actually beat it since, what 20 years. I think I did eventually beat the end boss on standard lives/continues when I was a kid, I never completed Sonic 1 though which is arguably harder.

Also I remember when I left the MD on overnight once and my dad switched it off.

Looking for a recommendation for a controller for my RetroPi. I've been using a DS3/4, but it doesn't feel 'right'. Can't explain why.

Is there something not too expensive that will tick all the basic boxes for SNES/MD/Neo Geo/PC Engine games? I'm leaning towards the snes-a-like USB controllers on Amazon, but would appreciate it if anyone has bought/used a specific one that works well.

Buffalo SNES Pad is pretty good, best SNES repro controller I've come across so far anyway. A bluetooth version would be perfect.

You can mod a real SNES controller to use GPIO header on the Pi. Are you handy with stuff like that?
