Err, getting off the subject of eBay - I didn't realise that only 17 N64 games gained a PAL release between December 16th 2000 and the release of the GameCube in early 2002. Of those 17, five were children's games or utter turd - anyone moaning that a console has no games should be directed back to the N64's 2001 and told to have a word with themselves.

It's a miracle that N64 Magazine managed to keep the enthusiasm going!

They must have been holding out for Paper Mario... what exactly did they print each month since there can't have been much review content?

Mostly GameCube hype I think. Bizarrely enough Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was the last game published into the PAL format on December 10, 2001...two months after Tony Hawk's 2 on October 12th

It was around that time, although I didn't really read mags much or know what games were coming out etc., that I don't recall many N64 games at all on shelves. When I got into NGC and the GC came along, those were the best days of days.

I'm pretty sure I just bought games with Nintendo or Rare on them.. and some from friends. I'm not sure I've actually paid for a single N64 game in a shop that wasn't Rare or Nintendo. Which was pretty smart, I guess.

Edit: Ah Rayman 2, well everyone knows Rayman. Can't remember how I got that.

For me N64 was 90% Smash 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, and a bit of Jet Force Gemini (I did almost complete it, those strawberry floating bear things don't count), Banjo-Tooie of course (RIP my copy) oh and OOT (which I borrowed and dropped half way mostly because GC came out). I never even owned Mario 64, and still don't. Apart from GameBoy it was my only console, as well. I played a bit of PS1 but it was my brother's and so could only play it before he got home from school after smoking weed in the park.

Yeah, it was around that time when most places barely stocked N64 titles if at all. I pre-ordered Paper Mario from a local indie place called Chips who were perhaps the last place round my way to carry a decent range of N64 games and I'm pretty sure mine was the only copy they got in stock.

The same thing happened years later at Gamestation with Killer 7 on GameCube.

I remember when Dixon's (were I preordered my Cube) dropped GC entirely and I thought it was the end of the world. The first GC game I actually got from the Internet was F-Zero GX, which was pretty late on. I honestly wonder where I bought half these games. I used to get 1 or 2 ordered in from a fake unlicensed Video Box store that hadn't paid for the franchise but ran with it anyway, and half the VHS tapes were retail copies.

I mostly used to buy games from either GAME or EB before I had internet access but I also bought quite a few from Gameplay via their Sky digital interactive service (essentially a rudimentary web browser).

I used to buy a lot of games purely based on price too, which led to some extremely poor purchases but also some hidden gems.

A few times I managed to get games dirt cheap from Blockbusters when they were selling off their rental copies, NBA Jam for 50p was one of best bargains.

I would occasionally go into Gamestation or Game and see what I could get for a tenner. This often turned out pretty well as they both had an extensive range of budget PC games at £5 each or 3 for a tenner.

Excitebike must have been in that last 17? It was the last game I bought, think it was mid 2001? Think I bought that, some pots & pans then went to see Pearl Harbour in the cinema.

I think the last games I bought before that was Zelda MM, Mario Party 2 and Mario Tennis in late 2000. At about £40 a pop I wasn't keen on spending that much so asked the manager in Game if he'd offer me a deal if I bought all 3 so he knocked 10% off.

Odd voice at first, but you get used to it. Does the best in depth look at the UK microscene from the 80's I've ever watched. Lots of stuff about the actual companies (Imagine, Ocean, US Gold, Sinclair, Amstrad, Commodore) and systems (Speccy, C64, Amiga, ST etc) as well as games. Does some console stuff as well, but it's not the main focus, which is fine as there tons of that stuff already out there. It has a very UK/Europe focus which is a welcome change from the US and Japan domination on a lot of Youtube stuff.

I've actually been considering going down the route of collecting old computers as a result of watching the videos. Probably gonna try and pick up an Amiga and start from there at some point.

He does a mix of content like reviews and top tens which are mostly lighthearted. His reviews come in two distinct flavours, there are some more serious reviews of newer games but most are of older games and games related media done kinda in character which I find pretty funny.

Kind of retro but on a new system but Metal Slug 3 is bloody good isn't it even now. The Switch is getting so many Neo Geo games it's brilliant and because it's also a portable console the games are great for a quick pick up and play.

Kind of retro but on a new system but Metal Slug 3 is bloody good isn't it even now. The Switch is getting so many Neo Geo games it's brilliant and because it's also a portable console the games are great for a quick pick up and play.

I got that on the PS4 when it was on offer. Really strawberry floating hard, I gave up!

In other news, finally got the AV cable for my SNES so last night was spent marvelling at the awesome graphics and gameplay of FIFA International Soccer

Picture quality was fine, I know it will look better when I eventually get a SCART adapter but for the time being it will suffice.

Also picked up my copy of Super Mario Kart from the Post Office today and it's in decent condition, can't wait to have a go this evening

I haven't played it for a number of years now. It'll probably feel just a little bit clunky nowdays but the core gameplay shuold still be a lot of fun .
