Yep. I've got a list somewhere of all the games they gave their 90%+ award to - hoping to pick them all up at some point in the near future, although I had a good chunk of them to begin with. A lot of the ones I'm missing are sports games or very expensive to pick up stuff like Conker.

The only N64 score I disagreed with hugely was Turok 2 at 95%. Ridiculous. Rayman 2 also scored a wee bit low for my liking, thought that was at least an 80% game.

I've never got the love for the Turok series. I've always found it mediocre at best. Turok 2 was so repetitive, the "missions" (if you can even call them that) all consisted of find/activate/free x number of things.

Sealed games are for morons (no offense, you probably just shelved it) so I probably would. The people buying them are broken so just take their money.

I agree but I have got a couple . I'm not sure if one of them, a sealed copy of Robotron 64 for the N64 (USA version), is a fake seal. I picked it up about six years ago and it is plastic-sealed but without any kind of tear-strip on it. It may be okay, as I understand that some publishers did use that type of no-tear-strip wrap. But I'm not sure.

Yeah I think this was one of their only valium-influenced ratings.

When I get a new HDD later in the year I'll be downloading all of them to re-read on the go. I feel like the gaming scene really misses publications like N64 nowadays - there was a great sense of community that came from reading it that I'm totally alienated from now. The closest thing I've found to it is this forum actually.

Agreed. I still enjoy reading Official PlayStation and Retro Gamer, though.

N64 / NYC Mag were always pretty good with their review scores, but I sometimes wonder if their blips were down to being too committed to the cause of, as they put it, "The Big N". If all you played was Nintendo you might think Turok was a bit more impressive than it actually was. (Still no excuse for rating it higher than Goldeneye, though)

Yeah I always thought that was a possibility - I also thought that it was the reason they shat on Kirby 64, which wasn't a bad game at all - it felt like they kinda realised that they had to round on a Nintendo published game and Kirby was the unfortunate fall guy.

To be fair, the fact that I can only think of three or four review scores I disagree with in any way is probably indicative of a really good, well written and fair magazine. Most mags were shockingly biased at that time.

I find that Easy Allies reminds me of N64 magazine in terms of a group of people whose opinion I'm interested in, distinct 'characters' with their likes and dislikes, in-jokes, sense of community, etc. It's nowhere close to being as good, but then it's a different medium, and I'm not sure anything will ever be as unique and - for want of a better word - special as N64/NGC was.

They weren't gooseberry fool. I'd say there were 7.5 or 8/10 games for the time they were released. I remember enjoying Rage Wars too, although that was objectively quite poor.

I remember NOM gave Rage Wars a suspiciously high 98% and kept giving it away with subscriptions... was that one any good?

That was the multiplayer focused one? Played that, it seemed pretty lacking.

This is spot on ^^, I completely agree with the Easy Allies analogy and I think the reason I joined this forum was N64 / NGC or NGamer in the first place too.

I got my 16th N64 game this weekend, and it's a classic - Goldeneye 64

I paid a ridiculous price because I got into a mini bidding war in the last seconds of the auction, but I was determined to get this auction, as it's difficult to find in the condition I wanted it in.

That's 14 N64 games to go, and 17 SNES games to complete my collection target
