Sounds a lot like a MK game but maybe it's worth looking for a list of Mortal Kombat copycats.

Finally got my N64 hooked up to a proper big CRT in the spare room. Cleaned off all the carts so they now all work, gave the controllers a once over so theyre all shiny looking and nice. Next thing I need to do is get replacement sticks for the controllers, I know you can get them on Amazon pretty easily but there seems to be a bit of choice. Ive also seen various kickstarters and the like for replacement sticks. Anyone have nay recommendations for what brand/type I should be on the look out for?

Not really "retro" at all, but I've decided to start collecting PS3 games.

Great time to start too as there's plentiful stock around and a lot of it can be gotten dirt cheap. Picked up Resistance: Fall of Man the other day for 50p. Condition looks good too.

Just had a quick haul from one of the CEX in Glasgow as well.

Picked up:

Assassins Creed (1/2/Brotherhood & Revelations)
GTA IV
Final Fantasy XIII
Soul Calibur IV

All for £14. Each one is boxed, in good nick (I'll have a good check later though) and Revelations even has an additional Soundtrack CD with it.

I'm careful with that gen stuff. It's easy to rack it up and never play it. As was the case with my 360 that I eventually sold. I have a handful of PS3 games. I think as a generation it was incredibly generic with many sequels and "brown" games.

I infinitely preferred the PS3 / 360 -gen to this one. For my personal tastes, it was amazing - I was absolutely wowed by high-def.

Highlights for me were:

Motorstorm series
Uncharted series
Project Gotham 3 & 4
Forza Horizon
Ridge Racer 7
Red Dead Redemption

I'm definitely going to be picky to begin with. Start with the games I liked and don't have anymore, high-profile series and then move onto the less popular stuff over time. Though I'll be picking up cheap stuff as I go as well.

Booted up a few of the games tonight to see how they do. FFXIII still looks quite pretty, but GTA IV is a blurry mess these days. I was genuinely shocked at just how low-res some of the textures and things in that game are now. Luckily I've got the PC version if I ever fancy actually playing it properly.

I haven't logged on here for a couple of years or so but finally treated myself to the ICO/SOTC HD re-release on the PS3 last year.

Finally started ICO properly a couple of weeks ago and finished it for the very first time in the wee small hours today (couldn't sleep so got up and finished off the final section inside the castle, fighting the Queen, to the Sandy Beach ending.

Absolutely loved it all, the art style, the melancholic atmosphere, the puzzles, and the satisfaction of completing what's generally regarded as a classic.

Now onto Shadow of The Colossus HD. Never played that before either. I'd been contemplating getting a PS4 but even without kids I struggle to devote or justify the time to play games very often. Still got so many on Wii and PS3 that I've never finished. Who needs new stuff eh?

Welcome back to GR, Keith! Returning to “last gen” gaming seems to be a bit of a thing at the moment, with several GRcadians trying out titles they had missed or some that they want to replay. It’s nice to see that these older machines are still getting used :) .

Christmas time is always a great time for Diddy Kong Racing. It is one of the few games where I can safely say I’m an expert at, I played it so much as a kid. The second race with the dragon and the octopus nearly killed me.

Thanks! My previous last post was from April 2015, gracefully bowing out of the Okami HD replay thread. I'd done the Zelda-ocarina of time replay thread just before that and had epic quest fatigue

So I'd better get back to Okami once I've experienced SOTC.

DKR was definitely associated with Xmas for me too. That Winter Wonderland-esque tune charging around that snowy village is now stuck in my head for the day...

Lazy Fair wrote:Another random question. I remember a really odd old snes fighting game that I used to rent from the local video shop years ago. It was a 2d fighting game. One of the characters was a kind of doninatrix character. I’m sure she could jump and have spikes come out her heels and could also whip you as a finisher and you’d turn into a pile of maggots. Anyone got any idea what it was?

In my memory it seems like duh a weird old game. I’d love to see some video of it.

Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like Weapon Lord, other Snes fighters were, king of the fighters, clay fighters, and a few more. Weapon Lord is most likely. Very difficult game too

Wish my image sig would work

I think we all did.

Glad to see you back again though.

Apart from picking up random cheap PS3 games when I see them I'm trying to think what my next targets will be. I'm thinking about grabbing the Souls games next, though the Motorstorm games also appeal as I've never owned any of them and I know they're quite highly regarded on here. Might get Black Flag and Rogue first though and finish off my AC games.

Any Glasgow based forumites been into Shmup recently? They recently joined with the vinyl seller next door to them presumably to save on rent costs - I've only ever managed to find the strawberry floater open once though, which is very frustrating.

Never been in, but I'm rarely in that part of town. Keep meaning to head over though. Just off Byers Road isn't it?

Yeah it's in de Courcy's arcade on Cresswell Lane - where CA Games used to be for any eagle eyed readers of N64 Magazine.

It's actually really good, and although the guy is a bit of a fleece merchant on trade in prices he is pretty knowledgeable. I'm gonna try and head in after this class finishes up so will report back with pictures and things if he is open.
