Wow, kerr - you certainly find some cracking deals! Do you only pick up a game if it's in great condition, or do you do any "clean up" on the discs/cases?

I do enjoy cleaning stuff up and making it better but I control what I pay for a game based on its condition as well as rarity or lack of etc..... If something's trashed trashed I tend to leave it be, worst thing I got in the last few years was a highly highly scratched copy of crash bandicoot racing for the PS1 disc only for 30pence, I keep waiting till I have 3 discs I'd like resurfaced as Game and a semi local Indy both charge £5 to resurface 3 games.

The 3 Xbox games today are things I might not have jumped for at £1 per one as they are far from rare but there discs look brand new which is what really made me go sod it I'm getting them.

Nice going, kerr. You must be building a very cool collection if you're picking up titles at such cheap prices; you are getting a very high "value" ratio versus buying expensive modern games!

I do buy some modern but I try to wait for them to drop in price and look about for the best deal possible, but yeah there's certainly a lot more bang for your buck with certain retro things. Part of why I like retro game buying is the thrill of the chase getting something a lot cheaper than it tends to go for.

The kickstarter for Sega Master System: A Visual Compendium is now live!

Dang, I've been waiting for this! The Master System was the first console I owned and it was an exciting time, heralding the (re-)arrival of consoles in the UK and enabling arcade-quality gaming in homes!

I've already got my support in for this project. Press me to find out more!

There’s a sealed copy of Silent Hill gone up on eBay for £1,200. Either he’s taking the piss or a new copy of SH is extremely rare.

Is there a Mega Drive version of this?

Not yet, Cora. So far there have been versions covering the C64, Amiga, Spectrum, NES and SNES. The Master System one will become the sixth addition. Positive news is that the publisher has gained official agreement from Sega to publish the book and this bodes well for a Mega Drive edition in the future! I hope that there could be a Mega CD / 32X one, too!

I picked up Road Rash for 1.50 complete at an animal sanctuary of all places. It's the non platinum version so pretty rare together.

Also RE umbrella chronicles (Wii) complete £2 and Rhythm Paradise DS for £4.

All good condition

There were some Xbox games too, halo 1 and 2 complete and good condition but I find halo a bit plodding, even rare replay XBO for £5.

Quite pleased with that. Loads of PC games as well but not sure they will validate on windows Live anymore, it's really easy to spend £15-£20 on essentially shelf fodder like that so I managed not to. Unreal tournament 3, far cry 3, Bioshock 2 etc

Your talking playstation Roadarash Gecko? I think that's an awesome game, I love the music in it as well.

I picked up Tecno world wrestling for the NES cart only for £2.50 and fight night round 2 for Xbox complete for £1.

Whenever folk mention Road Rash I feel duty-bound to talk about the N64 version... the game is such good fun! I love the chunky graphical styling, punchy (literally) gameplay and "go-anywhere" environments. Carts are not that easy to come by but it's well worth a go if you find one.

First time I played Road Rash was as part of a charity compilation in 1998. They bundled it with Broken Sword and Myst, and I bought it because by that point it was the only way to purchase Broken Sword on PSone. It wasn't uncommon back then for games to get delisted fairly quickly and their print runs stopped, and unless they were on Platinum you had to rely on the pre-owned market.

Gameplay rang up by Mum and said they couldn't get hold of Broken Sword so as a replacement they sent Disney's Hercules. As it turned out, Hercules was actually pretty good for a movie tie-in.

For the record I've been trying to find an acceptable boxed copy of this as there's absolutely no point going for cart only - the price differential is minimal due to the game's rarity. It's similar for another N64 rough diamond that I know you're a fan of - Robotron 64.

On a separate note - I've been looking at buying up the Marvel branded XBox 360 games because a) they're quite easy to beat for achievements, and b) I love Marvel themed stuff and it'd be nice to have a videogame collection, but so many of them have held their value that it's actually a very expensive endeavour. For example, was looking at Spider-Man: Edge of Time and it still goes for £15+ on eBay :dread:

Oh yes, Cora! Robotron 64 is one of my favourite games for the machine. It's old-school but slick, addictive and has a terrific 90s dance soundtrack. It starts out pretty welcoming in terms of difficulty and it's the kind of game you can zone-out to whilst playing.

Interesting stories. My girlfriend and older brother both recognised the name which I found surprising.

The gameplay is really good, I noticed you could go off the track but I didn't realise that was a "go anywhere" mechanic. The soundtrack is also great, sound garden! I found an Easter egg too, if you win a race and wait for a while it plays super edgey music videos. Everything is pink and yellow. I'm playing on original PS3 so it's super crisp, the pixel aesthetic as it used mostly sprites and full motion video is interesting

The only thing I don't like is the incredibly slow menus that seem to load seperate raster images off the disk each time you press the dpad, this is the same way a DVD works. Things have come a long way.

One thing I was a bit perturbed by was the multiple carelessly interchangable descriptions of "a psychotic", "psychopath" which are not the same thing at all. I found that a bit offensive as psychosis is not fun at al and these terms shouldn't be used flippantly. Goes to show how badly mental health awareness was in the 90s and sadly I grew up with that in the family and I've had multiple friends suffer from psychoses and mania.
