SPORTS Minister Shane Ross wants the government to look into an Olympic bid - saying the "sky is the limit" if a bid for the 2023 Rugby World Cup is successful.

Speaking in front of the Oireachtas Transport, Tourism and Sport Committee, Mr Ross said an Olympic bid is "now a realistic prospect"
"Let's think about the Olympics, sure," Mr Ross said.

"Now it's a real realistic prospect if we will build up these stadiums.
"The sky is the limit. I think we have the prospect of opening new channels and we should certainly be thinking that way," he added.

The last thing Ireland needs at the moment is to be spending that much money on an Olympics.

Would be interesting. I never went to London for 2012 because it was too expensive to fly all the way to London and have to book accommodation but I could take the train down to Dublin for a day quite easily.
