Ghost of Tsushima - Fastest selling new PS4 IP - Director's Cut is now out

PS4: 1080p at 30FPS
PS4 Pro: 1800p at 30FPS or 1080p at 60FPS
PS5 (PS4 Ver.): 1800p at 60FPS
PS5: 2160p at 60FPS or 1800p at 60FPS

- The native version of PS5 incorporates improvements in the post-processing effects (greater number of particles, smoke ... etc)
- I recommend using Resolution mode on PS5. Its framerate stays at 60FPS most of the time.
- Some shadows have been improved. For example, trees on PS4 cast more shadow than they should, while on PS5 it is displayed more faithfully.
- However, the resolution of the shadows and their rendering distance have not improved.
- Textures, reflections, draw distance and anisotropic filtering have not undergone changes on PS5.
- Part of the foliage has been modified on PS5, specifically the grass. Light reflection and size has been improved in some areas.
- The loading screens on PS5 have disappeared. You don't need more than 2 seconds to start the game or use fast travel.
- One of the most notable improvements in PS5 is the inclusion of lip sync with Japanese voices.

Decided to hold off on this because I really wanna replay the game on PS5. But I don't plan on getting one for a while yet. The expansion sounds like a dream, but imma have to try and avoid spoilers for as long as I can on this lol >,>

I only booted the menus and played a bit of the intro, so these are very raw impressions of the PS5 version, but...

- It still looks incredible, but I don't think it looks noticeably better.
- The DualSense support is excellent. Really think it elevates the game. There's a lot of nice flourishes, and it seems to be well thought out.
- Lock on and a Souls-like control scheme (with attack on the shoulder buttons) is an extremely welcome addition.

Yeah it's there from the game tile.

If you have the digital version of the PS4 game, the price of the PS5 game on the PS Store is just reduced from £69.99 to £24.99. There's no specific "upgrade" you need to buy.

Cheers - I have the PS4 disc version and from the game tile all I can see is a £15.99 update to the PS4 directors cut?

Sorted now - took disc out, put it back in and tile refreshed. Downloading :-)

£24.99, but it includes the expansion. You can't have the PS5 version without it.

I think this is the crux; the resolution increases from 1800p (PS4 Pro) to 2160p (PS5) with very few changes made to textures and detailing. Even Digital Foundry and PushSquare are hesitant to recommend that the upgrade is really worth the price of admission; with PushSquare going as far as saying "Having played the entirety of the expansion on PlayStation 5, there's no question that Sony is overcharging for the next-gen upgrade — and it's not a good look.".

There is absolutely no denying that this is a very good game; but it does feel like Sony is really gouging gamers for cash in terms of the upgrade cost.

I don't like that. It's the kind of thing where I'll be in a constant state of anxiety over whether to hide it or not and, having the choice, I'll not be satisfied either way.

I'll be hiding it when wearing cloth outfits, and showing it off when in armour.

It probably won't be an issue later in the generation but Sony really have messed up with all this upgrade bollocks, and just for the sake of $10?

Like sure it takes money to do these upgrades but maybe, just take the hit Sony?
