Doesn't seem massively positive.

I'm going to see it tomorrow. Got the day off work for an exam and didn't have anything planned for the afternoon.

Pretty much. The Ghostbusters license elevates it somewhat.

Somewhere said its pretty much just a Feig comedy and if you like his other comedies you'll like it, if you don't then you won't. I'd go along with that.

I'd say McCarthy is. Wiig no, but it's hard to say how much is her and how much is the material she's given.

James Richardson gave it 5/10

I love this guy, his reviews are fantastic

She still has to deliver that dialogue, and her sense of timing is fantastic.

Captain Kinopio wrote:Regarding the comedy, well they throw an awful lot of jokes at the wall. A gooseberry fool load in fact and I'd say probably 80% of them don't land, or at least they didn't with me. The tone of the comedy in the trailers is accurate to what's in the film a lot of it is cringe worthy a lot of it is just meh. That said because of the sheer amount of jokes there are a good few funny one liners and one sequence in particular had the cinema in hysterics and was very well played by all involved. Melissa McCarthy I'd say is responsible for carrying a lot of the comedy, she has by far the best comedic delivery and timing. Wiig is a good actress but I've never really been a fan of her comedy performances and she doesn't do a whole lot for me in this humour wise but she plays a good straight man to McCarthy. The other two ehhh, Leslie Jones really wasn't for me a bit too much of a stereotype. McKinnon again rubbed me up the wrong way for most of the film but her character will be incredibly popular among young girls so I can see what they've done with her and it's admirable but I think she'll grate the trolls the most. Hemsworth is some times great sometimes bad. The overall problem with the comedy is just the quality of the writing isn't there for me, feels like a script written by committee. There's a good amount of humour in it and although the bad outweighs the good it doesn't drown it out completely

This was my biggest concern, I absolutely hated the tone of the comedy in the trailers. It was so lowest common denominator and so far removed from that of the original film's (and even GB2's) =/

But I have seen comedies that I've liked where not every joke landed, as you say it seems like the approach of firing loads of gags out at least means some of them will likely land. I'll try and keep an open mind whenever I eventually see it (probably not in the cinema, don't want to pay for something I might still hate!)

Well I loved it. I think it's a shame that people seem to think that nothing short of perfection will do, especially when you consider that the original film is the only truly great thing to come out of the Ghostbusters franchise. But this was great. Yes it's extremely modern and Hollywood but it does what it does well and it has fun.

I really didn't know what to expect and as a result I did spend most of the film trying to enjoy it for something it wasn't. But then in the final act, there was a moment where it all clicked and I understood what it was.

It's not perfect, it has its flaws but it's immense fun and the actors all play off each other really well. I want to see it again and I'm excited to see where a sequel will take things.

Holtzman is my favourite  Also Kevin :datass:

Just seen this and, y'know what, I really liked it. I enjoyed it way more than I expected.
Some of the trailers made it look like it was going to suffer the same problem that The Force Awakens had, just a shot for shot remake of the original, but it really wasn't. The whole cast seemed like they were just really enjoying themselves and it made everything work so much better.
Really hope this does well enough to get a sequel, especially after the post credit scene.

Firstly, why would the trailers make you think this had anything to do with the original?

Secondly, how was The Force Awakens in any way a "shot for shot remake of the original"?

It's not, it's just the cool thing to say at the moment.

Well the story beats were pretty much like for like from the original. That's probably what he meant.

Anyway, Metacritic score has dropped to 61 now.

I was still undecided whether or not to go and watch this but I think I'll wait as most of the legitimate film critics seem to have rated it average at best.

Coming to Netflix on Friday.

Ghostheads is a documentary that explores the extreme side of the Ghostbusters fandom, and looks back at the impact the franchise has had on the world over the past three decades. Through interviews with key cast and crew, including Dan Aykroyd, Ivan Reitman, Ernie Hudson and many more, as well as with Ghostbusters fans all over the world, Ghostheads presents countless humanizing stories that will connect with audiences about comradery, overcoming obstacles, and that no one should ever feel alone or isolated.

Ghostheads will show what really separates a fandom from the rest.

Every Ghosthead is unique. Every Franchise is its own.

It's been over 30 years since Ghostbusters first premiered on the big screen back in 1984, with the film spawning generations of fans all over the world. Our movie captures the magic these movies created by showcasing the fans, and seeing the reactions from the cast and crew involved with the Ghostbusters franchise overall.

I liked it, perfectly good summer comedy and fun throughout. Suffers a bit in terms of story, but makes up for that in character. The lead four are very much their own characters rather than imitations of the original quartet, and all the actresses are great with McKinnon the clear stand-out. Their chemistry is fantastic too, I'd be happy to watch a sequel with them together again. It's a much broader comedy than the original, with plenty of jokes that fall flat but many more that work. Enjoyed the special effects too, very colourful and some great ghost designs.

Easy three stars.

Watched the original again tonight, it's good but people getting all precious over is ridiculous. I was surprised by how few jokes there were.
