Ghostbusters (2016) + Second movie trailer p18 - watch it and be horrified!

Pft, the soundtrack alone makes it an excellent movie.

Yeah I love the original (and the sequel!) but it wasn't really a comedy, just a fun movie.

Pretty much a perfect description of Ghostbusters 2016.

I just watched this and my overriding feeling is that it had some fun moments but overall sucked big time. I want to go mental in detail but a lot of it is down to Hemsworth. Not even sure if it's his fault or the writers but he pretty much ruins the dynamic of the film. Not funny. Just a good looking buffoon. And he's in it far too much.

Apart from that the end of the film is a mess. No sense of peril whatsoever. The villain is barely in it so you don't really have any reason to root for the main characters. So there's barely any drama and it's boring when the ghosts finally swarm the city. That bit is probably the worst sequence of the film. People are running away as if they're trying to catch a bus. And nobody strawberry floating dies during that bit! The most dramatic thing that happens is when someone swats some little ghosts away whilst looking mildly inconvenienced.

I think AC Jimbo basically had it right. Although I will give it a 4/10 and not 5 as I was expecting a bit more.

Just got back from seeing this and loved it. I had huge concerns as the trailers really didn't do it any favours; as discussed on the videogamer podcast it is hard to do comedy trailers because the jokes require buildup so just whacking the punchlines in a row doesn't work. Chris Hemsworth was great, it takes real skill to come across as such a plank while nailing the timing.

Also man, that end of credits bit made a bold move foreshadowing a sequel.

I've never seen trailers so poorly misrepresent a film as this. It's actually a lot of fun, really unexpectedly decent.

RLM hated it.

The look on Mike's face when Jay says Paul Feig has done quality work in the past. :lol:

I loved Mike's fakeout at the beginning. Also, it's been a while since I've seen him visibly drunk and not just faking it like he usually does. :lol:

It wasn't very good. Not bad enough to justify the hate it got but still gooseberry fool.

Just got back from seeing it. A better movie than Ghostbusters 2. Loses its way at the end, but I thought it was pretty funny!

What gets me though, Paul Feig has stated it's a re-boot and has nothing to do with the original films, yet at the beginning of the first trailer the captions state '30 years ago, four Scientists saved New York' so why are they being acknowledged?

I guessing just awful trailer creators. Its not like Feig made the trailers. Having worked for Sony, I know second hand how easily they strawberry float promotional things up.

Considering the film reviewed well and it's a reboot of one of cinema's most famous franchises that's extremely poor.

They just never recovered from the poor reception to the initial idea.

It's a shame. I was really looking forward to a sequel after seeing the first.

I haven't actually seen it but I really dont think they helped themselves with the trailers

Reading up on it, it seems Dan Aykroyd had been trying to make Ghostbusters 3 for years and had a script but Bill Murray wanted nothing to do with it. When Harold Ramis died it seems he gave up and gave his blessing to the all female version.

I feel they went a bit too political with the initial announcements and some of the stunts they pulled at the beginning that seemed to alienate a lot of people. Then the dreadful trailers came round.

It was a hard enough sell rebooting a beloved franchise as it is, you really can't afford any gaffes along the way. I was genuinely excited at the initial announcement, in part because I loved Bridesmaids!

I can see scope for a new reboot in a few years with an actual diverse cast.
