With 1 million tickets almost sold and only a few months to go until the opening ceremony at Celtic ParkI thought it was time we made a thread. Commonwealth Games are different in several ways to the Olympics Games; they're smaller, only Commonwealth countries can compete and (probably most importantly for this forum) we can support our own home nations. Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland will be sending teams to Glasgow to partly make up the 7000 athletes participating for 261 medals in 17 different sports.

- 11 days of competition from 23 July to 3 August 2014.
- 70 nations participating
- 16 different venues
- 261 events

It's like the Olympics, but no one cares about them but the host city.

Commonwealth Games are better as there are no references to "Team GB".

What commonwealth countries are in the Mediterranean? Did you fiendish Brits conquer some poor islands there as well?

It seats 10,000 more than Hampden, and is closer to the Emirates Arena(read, literally across the road) where a big chunk of the games are taking place I guess.

Neither Celtic Park or Ibrox can fit athletic tracks in them. Hampden is the national stadium and is built for such a purpose. It would be difficult to fit in the opening ceremony at Hampden with the athletics taking place immediately afterwards. Ibrox wanted the Opening AND closing ceremonies over both Hampden and Celtic park, greedy buggers.

Oh. To be honest, I don't think I could be less bothered about the Commonwealth Games. I mean, I'll probably watch it, but I wouldn't be too cut up if I missed big chunks of it.

Mm, can't say I'm fussed about the Commonwealth Games. It's some way down the list of important athletics events, and when a lot of the best nations are missing (in terms of competitive athletes) it all feels a bit pointless.
