Playing through this on PS4, I borrowed it from the local library so can't complain about the price.

I think I'm about 25 to 30 hours in, having done every favour available to me thus far and have just found the second piece of a green mask.

Really enjoying it. I agree that the dedication to a single shot camera looks awkward at times and I don't love the inconsistent timing of "parry warning -> parry button press" (this would be solved by having a coloured rune appear above their heads a la sekiro, it's the closing circle not always correlating with the hut that throws me. A symbol would distract me less from the actual weapon movement of the enemy).

I am loving the characters and the writing. Pretty much only use the axe as I love the weight and heft of it. The ability to augment your most used skills is also very cool.

Just started this. 3-4 hours in, seems more of the same so far but that's fine by me. The production values are off the scale so far. Svartalfheim :datass:

Also, I love the poems you find-a great easter egg!

It was a great little moment when I got the first one and read it and thought "wait a minute!"

The covers for them on the shelves in Brok & Sindri’s are also neat.

I realise I'm a year late to the party on this but I'm 16 hours in and this game is incredible.

The story and characters have me completely absorbed and the different realms have all looked astonishing in their own way.

I just gone done with the main story in Vanaheim and everything about Freya was brilliantly done.

No idea where the game is going overall really but I'm excited to find out.

Can anyone tell me how far I am on the story? I've just been to Midgard to see The Norms? I'm thinking about half way?

I think that's a bit further than half way. More like 2/3 perhaps?

Richard Schiff (Toby in The West Wing).

Woh, mind blown! I thought I recognised him. He's excellent. I love how they've pitched the character.

If it's the area I think you mean, yes, that area is incredible.

It's just a brilliant bit of game design. You start what you think will be a quick side quest before cracking on with the main quest and it takes you to whole new area. And then you think oh this side quest is a bit bigger than I expected. And as you explore the area it just gets bigger and bigger and denser and denser. 3 hours later and I've been distracted so many times by following something else. Best bit in the game so far for me.

I kind of hate how this is becoming more and more common in modern games. There's a reason three act story structures haven't changed since the dawn of time, bizarre that game companies are now dismissing fundamental rules of story telling to chase something "epic". Nothing kills my enjoyment of a game more than being directed to an ending, mentally preparing for a finale, only to discover it was a ruse and I'm actually only half way through.

I blame The Last of Us 2 for this trend! Rant over!

While I very much agree on TLOU2 I have to disagree in this instance, as it's all optional side quest stuff. If you want to keep the main story going, you just follow the main path. Which is very different to TLOU2.

I thought they were both great.

It show's what a nightmare it must be for creators.

Finished the main story yesterday. Just wow. The final few hours are truly breath-taking. It doesn't really have any tricks up its sleeve gameplay wise but it's a real rush as it sweeps you along and the payoff is superb. I think there was definitely a point in the story where I was starting to get worried it was losing focus and that there were too many characters with too much going on. But it all came together so well.

Big fan of how they've set up the post game too. It's very satisfying exploring the world and seeing the impact of the conclusion of the story. I've already experienced lots of nice little moments and I'm sure there are more out there to find. More games should take this approach.
