Did anybody else catch Gomorrah the Italian Mafia series based on the movie of the same name?

I've just watched the first season and it is immense. Absolutely astounding

Yes, I'm watching it now. Two episodes to go.

Love it. Been a steady increase in quality from the opening episode up until about episode 7, then a bit of a dip when Genny came back from Honduras all Kurtzian. It's full of clichés, but so beautifully filmed, and well-acted that I don't mind one bit. The sign of a good drama that I cheer for one particular parasitic, murderous sociopath over another.

A lot of people who've been watching it seem to agree that: TV series > Film > Saviano's original book.

Got to wait until 2016 for the second series, though. Booooo.

At first I wasn't so sure about how they flipped from character to character. But the more I watched the more engrossed I became. It just grows on you unexpectedly. Characters I'd root for became people I didn't like at all and so on and so forth.

Genny coming back was interesting. I liked the change in character and was reflective of the difference in the ages between all the members of the gang.

The final episode is an absolute stunner!

Same here.

My only gripe with the show is the device they used to make Gennaro grow up. He was gone for all of one ep ffs!

Agreed, it was a bit absurd. The the way time passed in the series was a bit all over the place. Hence I overlooked that aspect.

On the one hand I can understand it if they want to stay faithful to the source material but that should be of secondary concern when you cannot do the source justice due to the limited number of episodes. In which case it would be better to keep the tone of what occurs in the source but to deviate completely from that specific portion of the plot. But yeah, other than that it's great stuff and has more than made up for the lack of any new Corleone, and good to know there'll eventually be a second series.

I think it started this week, and we got a double bill of eps. Should still be able to view 'em at some point/get 'em via On Demand/similar.
