PostGoodfellas (The film) Like it or hate it... Discuss.

Going off from my rant in the film thread, i demand to know how many people here like the film, or infact hate it, and what their reasons are for doing so.

For me, it's an average portrail of American gangsters, from the old days, it was an ok perspective, shot really well (most of the time) by Martin Scorsase, but it just didn't finish well for me, the pacing just seemed off IMO.

What do you all think?

I really wasn't impressed on first viewing, but after watching it for a second time something just clicked for me. I now love it.

Best bit is where Robert DeNiro admits he's gay.

I've explained about the pacing in the film thread, but I love the film and it's easily one of Scorsese's best.

portrail of American gangsters, from the old days.

Dance for me spider.
Joe Peschi is what saved that film for me, i will still gladly put it on and watch through it, even when it gets hideously boring towards the end, Joe Peschi alone is worth the price of the dvd!

I didn't like it at all. It just felt rushed, and overall boring.

Well in his book, which is a lot better than the film, A lot of the stuff Henry talks about doesn't happen in the film, and its all given a bit of hollywood treatment to make it seem more gritty and twisted.

In the film they get the big score at the airport, in the book Jimmy gets encombered with rage and believes someone will rat him out, and it gets to the point where the only person left is Henry, and Henry fears that he will kill him, its little things like that, that could have made the film go a bit clearer.

It's the film Scorsese should have won his Oscars for. Well that and Raging Bull.

Casino was an ace film, that was Joe Peschi and Sharon stone right?
I only remember one scene from that, when they are told to dig their graves or something in a corn field?

Its been a long time since i seen it though.

The whole of that second paragraph happens in the film. Jimmy systematically kills anyone who might lead to him being arrested for the airport robbery. Henry and his wife also fear that he will eventually try and kill them (the sequence where Jimmy tries to get her to go into a shop to look at some clothes, but she gets cold feet for fear that it's a trap.)

Anyway, I though you meant that it was an old style gangster film (i.e. Classical Hollywood style), which it isn't.

Love it! Quality film. Casino is like a poor man's Goodfellas if you ask me, though they both differ greatly.
