Guess this is a similar thing to the Switch version of AC Odyssey which is exclusive to Japan.

Streaming is a cool idea but still a fair few years off from being the norm as many folks simply don't have good enough internet speed.

Speed isn't the problem for this, you can stream HD quality or better easily for less than the average broadband speed in the UK, it's latency which is the real killer.

Even with data centres very close to you and a solid connection you are still likely to see a good 30ms or more of lag added to your game by the network, not a problem for everything but a killer for many games which need quick input.

https://www.windowscentral.com/google-l ... -microsoft

Recently, Google played its hand after years of speculation. Google is working on Project Stream, which will (if it works) allow you to experience "AAA" quality core games via Chrome OS, and of course, cheap Chromebooks. Notably, mega publisher Ubisoft is one of the first companies to jump on board, with Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Sony has PlayStation Now, Google has Project Stream, Amazon is widely expected to be working on something similar, with Microsoft already having announced "console-quality" game streaming for phones and other devices. Recently I've heard credible rumors that Microsoft's game streaming platform could be available as early Q1 or Q2 2019, which would make X0 2018 in November a good place to announce it.

Is streaming the future of gaming? Or at least a key part of it? Microsoft believes so - hence the xCloud - and Google is planning its own gaming platform. Recently, Project Stream was revealed, an early Google demo based on Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and we've got detailed analysis of it.

There are two big pieces of evidence that this is a hardware announcement. First, Google is a heavily compartmentalized company, and the person promoting this event on Twitter is none other than Risk Osterloh, Google's senior vice president of Hardware. Osterloh is behind the division that brought us the Pixel phone, Google Home, and every other Google hardware product. His involvement is a solid sign that, yes, new hardware is coming.

As that looks like it has a pretty generic form factor what are the chances that while this is the controller that comes with the device we'll also be able to use a Xbox or Playstation controller? Both are able to be used on PC so maybe they just use whatever software allows that link.

My predictions before tomorrow's conference.

Hardware
- Console is a basic Tegra/Android/nVidia Shield style device
- Controller (as leaked) is shown
- Streams PC games from the cloud
- Runs Android games natively

Software
- Android TV interface
- Streaming service "Project Stream" re-branded as "Google Games" or something
- Assassin's Creed Odyssey demonstrated
- Compatible with latest version of Google Chrome
- App available on select Android phones/tablets/TVs

I think this all sounds pretty reasonable. Android game box with PC game streaming

I think we might see other consoles released by "partners", similar to how 3DO had hardware by Panasonic, Sanyo, Goldstar and Samsung.

There's already plenty of third party Android TV boxes, some of which could already be compatible

Let's not forget the Google Nexus Player either (which has a better controller)

Logo leaked, I'm going with "Streamcast" as the final name.

Wots 'is face on Twitter, the guy from Kotaku, said a good few days ago that that isn't likely the final design. (Because apparently the design is based off a patent diagram and patent diagrams almost never show final design.)

I wonder if this will be the first outing of Fusia Google’s new OS that was rumoured to replace Android at some point.

We've been hearing rumours tidbits about Google working behind the scenes for a while now so I'm super curious to see what the final result will look like. The only way I'm gonna be impressed is if they come out with a bang and announce they've acquired notable game devs to work for them.

It's also not on 18/03/2019 either, as I'm fairly certain we would have heard about it by now!

In 1998 the dreamcast was released, followed by the power glove in 2006 and an Atari in 2015?

Dreamcast was the first online console
Powerglove was the first motion controller
Atari was the first something or other
StreamCast is the first streaming home console
