Anyone have one? Any recommend one?

My Mum is after a streaming device purely for streaming videos from the PC to the TV. She was gonna buy a PS3 for it but I thought i'd see if I could find anything cheaper that does the same thing.

What exactly does she want to stream? I'm not sure Chromecast will do what she wants it to.

I dont think it does streaming from PC to TV. You would be better off getting a Raspberry Pi and installing Raspbmc which will then do that.

It does but just needs a plug in for chrome or media sharing set up on your network , but it all depends what you want to share.

There are some apps which support DLNA including AllCast, BubbleUPNP. If she runs PS3 Media Server, Mezzmo etc from the other side then that will encode most files into a suitable format for those apps.

You might manage 720p over wifi but it depends on a number of factors.

Is her a TV a smart TV? Samsung tele's for the past couple of years have supported DLNA too (with Allshare)

Your cheapest option is to purchase a Sky NowTV box for £9.99 and then side-loading the Plex channel.

The NowTV box can only output 720p though.

Good stuff. How easy is it to set up a Plex channel to connect to her PC? Is it something you'd recommend?
