Basically, I've managed to somehow wedge a small piece of rubber stick in the headphone socket of my iPhone. If anyone's played football on AstroTurf, it's one of those little rubber black things they have on the pitch. A few of the ended up in my bag along with my phone, and one appears to have crept into the headphone socket.

I made it worse by jamming the headphone plug in wondering what the problem was :fp:

Forum HEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!!!!!

The port's too narrow, managed to get a bit out with a drawing pin but it's not long enough :-(

Would it be a terrible idea to try and kinda (really carefully) hoover it out with a vacuum cleaner?

Hoover. Used one to get sand out of my digital camera last year and worked a treat!

It's well and truly wedged, jamming my headphones in must've compressed it.

Off to Ryman for a pack of these tomorrow by the looks of it...

This wasn't long enough...

Turn the device off; damp cotton bud. Twist it as you put it in the jack so it doesn't get stuck. Might clean it out :)

I've been paying £5 a month insurance through O2 on this. My mate got a £70 iPhone 4 when he dropped his 3GS in the sink.

Hmm

Vacuum cleaner
Needle/Pin
Rollled up Sellotape (cylinder) with a sticky bit at the top

I reckon the needle is your best bet so you can poke it and kind-of drag it up the side

EDIT: It's a strawberry floating rubber bit, don't claim it on your insurance till you've given everything a go - surely that will make your premium go up? (even if its phone insurance)

After 10 minutes of trying to scrape it out with a straightened stapler the black around the port has been scraped off and the thing looks a right mess!

Gonna call O2 and try to get it replaced tomorrow.

If the only impediment to a drawing pin was the length, then surely it's logical to try a needle?

Finally managed to find a longer pin and got it out.

Looks a mess now though, might call O2 tomorrow to say I dropped it in water, if they cover me then I'll just break it n get a new one...

The real solution is to buy an apple iPhone 7 ... no headphone port 8-)

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

I'm glad Apple finally addressed this issue. Other manufacturers should take note.
