That seems a bit harsh. I can't think of many other games that were as clever in their ability to constantly surprise, engage and thoroughly entertain the player. It kept throwing new stuff at you, right until the end.

I think the opening is one of the greatest openings (and one of the greatest sequences full stop) a game has ever had. That first fight in the village was magic, and it was as enjoyable the 10th time as it was the first. It's my pick for the winner, that's for sure.

Razilez wrote:It also featured what is possibly the scariest creature in any videogame; The Regenerator. I remember looking into the room through the window, seeing this body lying on the table. I thought to myself "Christ, imagine if that thing were still alive". I then entered another room to see a truly horrific image of this spider attaching itself (or being pulled out of) a human body. I knew I needed to get the hell out of there once I had come for the key. Suddenly I could hear a door open, and the music start to creep in. I began to panic, and watched the door behind me. Suddenly I saw the creature that was supposedly dead from the previous room enter, with a big mouth full of teeth, red glowing eyes and a choking sound that was beyond horrible. I literally shouted out "Oh strawberry float!" and readied my weapon, but as soon as I did that this creature ran towards me and I yelled out loud. Realising my bullets had no effect on the thing made me truly fear the creature, and it was only later I realised how to kill it. Managed to ran around it and back out the door I came in, only to discover there were others!

The way the creature moves, sounds and acts makes it stand out amongst other creatures in any other game.

This this this!!

Regenerators :o

The strange thing about them is they retain there scariness no matter how many times you play. The bit with the prison cells, where you can hear his halting, snickering breathing down the end of the corridor and you edge along it to trigger him so you can retreat down the end of the corridor and snipe him out. I always dread that bit. Heh.

They sometimes surprise you too. There's a part, near a room with some dog cages, where there's a lever activated door. I knew he was behind there so I left the door and went to investigate the room, I left Ashley in there and went back out. I went through the mechanical door and the Regenerator had gone. Puzzled I went back to the dog cage room with Ashley and just before I got there I heard screaming. I came round the corner and there, right in my face was the damn regenerator. I nearly jumped out of my skin. He must have opened the door and got in when I was in the room without me noticing and I walked out leaving him and Ashley in there! I didn't even know they could open doors.

There's so many little things that make these terrifying. They're brilliant.
