I have a video of a woman shoving a vibrator down a guy's Jap eye repeatedly.

Should I get rid?

Even if the law isn't passed, you should get rid.

Committing a crime (such as paedophilia) should, obviously, remain a crime. Producing an image of that crime should be a crime. Buying an image of that crime should be a crime. Redistributing an image of that crime should be a crime.

Raping a kid hurts that kidl. Producing an image of that crime glorifies (often for profit) the hurting of the kid. Buying an image funds the child rapists. Redistributing further humiliates that child and furthermore raises interest in whichever site produced it, potentially increasing their profits, yada yada.

I would, however, draw the line at possessing the image. Mere possession of an image doesn't hurt the child again, nor does fapping off to it. Yes, having a Maddy fetish or whatever is very weird, but being very weird shouldn't really land anyone in jail. The coppers should have to have evidence that you, be it by raping, selling snaps of the rape, buying snaps of the rape, or redistributing snaps of the rape, contributed in some way to that crime happening.

Fixed, to illustrate the logic doesn't follow. Surely people shouldn't be allowed to get away with something that horrific just because they were too cheap to pay for it and so sourced it illegally?

Not that it matters, this law is utterly unenforceable, and when they're having so much trouble trying to shut down actual paedophile rings, I can't think that your average kinky video will be high on anyone's to-do list.

Actually it does follow the same logic. Surely finding images of child porn and having no part in the production of it is a victimless crime?

Note: I do not condone the ownership of child porn.

What counts as possession? Ripping it off the website/downloading it from a torrent?

Just reading it, it sounds very vague and seems like the police could twist it how they want. Don't we have people to stand up for us and say 'That's going too far'?

That's the reason it's vague, they're control freaks who can't understand the concept of PERSONAL FREEDOMS

The government just does what it strawberry floating wants these days. I was tempted to start a "Lets storm parlement" facebook group  Sadly they'd expect it and rape me under the terrorism act. Questioning big brother is an act of terrorism.

Questioning the government is supposed to be one of the ideals of Democracy, it's nice to see them having their own definition of it.

Anyway as I see it humanity is on a downward spiral as it is, I give us a 100 years at most before total collpase.

All I can say is I'm glad I live where I do, I mean it could be better, but still not as bad as what's happening where you are.

If something posed an actual threat to someone out there, then I would say that a ban might be justified, however in this case they're banning things that just might seem realistic.

Indeed. That stuff is, of course, strawberry floating sick, but as long as you don't fall into the buyer or re-distributor categories I'm not sure possession of any image, even images as reprehensible as those described by Skarjo above, should be a crime.

That being said, if you're found with that sort of shite on your PC you should probably be made to see a shrink as something is wrong with you. Same could be said for the bestiality really. Still, outing and criminalising perhaps isn't fair.

EDIT: I wonder how many government watchlists I'm going to be put on for publicly stating such a hideously liberal opinion.

They ban possession because if no one is allowed to posses it, no one can distribute it. Possession is clear cut, but try proving who distributed a torrent. And because by owning something you are at the very least benefiting in some way from an illegal act. How you acquired it doesn't change any of that.

I've got 100 odd Manga and Anime combined I'm in deep deep gooseberry fool if this goes through. Funny thing is not one of the anime is rated 18 (Yeah I know I'm doing it wrong) and only three Manga are rated Mature. Hell my Avril Lavigne live DVD has a stricter BBFC rating than half my Anime.

:fp:

Actually is this coming into force north of the border? I could've sworn this kind of business was a devolved matter.

I'm starting to dominate this thread a bit, which indicates too much focus on one person playing devil's advocate. I'll leave the should possession equal crime bit for now. What I will respond to is this:

jj_hunsecker wrote:try proving who distributed a torrent.

Anyone with a seeding ratio of 1 or greater has in theory redistributed a copy of the whatever's-being-downloaded. Tracker logs can show the IPs of anyone who's got that ratio or higher.

They won't be banning all manga/anime, just the hardcore/disgusting tentacle rape/GBH Bondage/night shift nurses kind of stuff. I doubt they're going to bust in and take your Love Hina, Naruto or Gundam yet alone your Ghibli movies.

As for why it's wrong to possess bestiality/child rape pictures, if someone has it then they must want it, if they want it then others will too and thus you have a demand. Where there's a demand they'll soon be a supply and that's what the government wants to stop.

What.

There is nothing wrong with most Hentai, fair enough I don't really look at the stuff, but it's hardly a case of if people see Tentacle rape they're going to try it in real life is it.
