Some quotes about Onrush are making me slightly more cautious:

There's no concept of position or startline or finishing position as such," explains Rustchynsky. "It's all about scoring points. So, if you wreck it doesn't matter - it's an opportunity to be put back in the pack, in the thick of it, to fight to score more points. If you fall behind, we put you back in the pack. If you race ahead, we put you back in the action. It's essentially all 24 vehicles on one track, racing around our version of off-road heaven...We know racing is most fun when you're side by side, bumping into one another, and we wanted to double down on that. How do we get to have that all the time?"

That...doesn't sound like something i'd be necessarily down for :?

That doesn't sound like a well thought out idea.

Hmm, no concept of finishing position? Well then it's not a racing game.

After the relative disappointments of Motorstorm 3 and Driveclub, this team have to get this game right.

Things haven't started well with the silly name Onrush. I also want to race for position...I hated the Kudos events in the PGR games.

All they need to do is make something like Motorstorm 1 and 2 with amazing graphics. Please no gimmicks!

The kind of tony hawk-esque trick scoring system has been out of fashion for a long time, ssx, tony hawk etc are dead for a variety of reasons, but I have doubts about this turn of design. Racing is a very hard genre to innovate in without falling for the trap of going too broad to alienate all sides of your audience. I am definitely more excited for Gravel and the recently announced new Dakar game now.

Playing F1 2017 as it was cheap on PSN. First one of these since 2011. Pretty good actually, although getting panned by my mate in our online championship.

Re: Onrush - if you were awarded points for both damage caused AND finishing position, then it’ll not be so bad. The first 2 Destruction Derby games did this to great effect.

Either I'm getting old and gooseberry fool or the original NFS Underground is balls-hard, even on easy/medium :dread: (both are also possible options), i'm not that far in and already you have to nail an absolutely perfect run or else the AI just smoke you with no possible recourse. Still can't get a hang of the drifting too.

NFSU was hard at points. Depends on the level your car is tuned to and if the competitors are the showdown style ones.

Try beating the last 5 or so races on hard, double dare you.

I wish I had picked up Blur! IIRC it came out at a similar time to Split/Second and I plumped for that. Arcade car racers seem to have been out of fashion for a while now... it's a shame as I like them.

I genuinely believe there is a correlation between the rise of call of duty and the fall of arcade racers; they start to decline from 2007-2008 with many classic franchises just drying up; outrun, ridge racer, flatout as well as one-offs like blur and split second not getting a second chance.

Blur was so damn good. One of the few online games I've actually enjoyed.

I am now re-installing blur, i imagine the online is dead by now and i didn't play much of it but i imagine the single player is worth a blast through.

Yeah, that snippet above has confirmed for me that I've definitely moved on from these arcade/novelty racing games. In fact, that sounds like a complete turd of a "racing" game. All this novelty bollocks is what put me off FM7. Just give me a proper racing game that isn't padded out with nonsense. Thankfully AC and PCars fit the bill.

I had a similar problem with Nail'd - its absolutely full-on all the time, a rollercoaster of a racing game that is as fast as possible with little variation. After a couple of hours i was bored as the novelty had worn off and it became monotonous.

I'll probably end up getting it anyway because i'm a sucker for new racing IP and as long as there are no lootboxes etc, but a demo would go a long way to resolving or confirming my suspicions.

A demo would be good as I'd like to proven wrong, but outside of FH3 these kind of racers aren't what I'm after these days.
