GR Racing Thread - now under new (F1) management

Welcome to the GR Pretend Race Car Street Meet Club (GRPRCSMC), the general thread for talking about games with cars in and stuff both old and new; from ultra-hardcore, no-fun-allowed srs bsnss sims like iRacing and PCARS to casual arcade "fun" trash like Forza and Need for Speed.

Now for some choice words from sim racing authority Qikz:

On a less flippant note, talk about racing games in general here; new stuff, currently playing, arrange sessions, dick-wave about leaderboard times etc.

This was a great idea for a thread :toot: . I like car racing games, although very much arcade-style rather than simulation stuff.

Some of my favourites have been Formula One Simulator (C64j, Out Run (Master System), Nigel Mansell’s World Grand Prix (Amiga), Super Skidmarks (Amiga), Ridge Racer (PlayStation), Need for Speed (PlayStation), Porsche Challenge (PlayStation), Formula 1 ‘97 (PlayStation), NFS III (PlayStation), Total Drivin’ (PlayStation), Top Gear Rally (N64j, Rage Racer (PlayStationJ, NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 (Xbox) and NFS: Rivals (PS4). Man was there a lot of super racers on the PlayStation!

In terms of upcoming car racing games, I’m keeping an eye open for NFS: Payback and The Crew 2.

Looks like Slightly Mad are on for a Fast & Furious game.

The game I'm most looking forward to trying on my shiny new Xbox One X is Forza 7 as my last Forza game was on 360.
I still think Driveclub had the best graphics I've seen in a driving game so if Forza 7 can top that then I'm going to be super happy.

I need to play more driveclub, but its on the pile with so many other games. I'm tempted to try the motion steering controls for it, maybe get one of those controller wheel mount thing too; i use the wireless speed wheel on 360/pc which for a casual like myself is fine compared to the space or faff of a full wheel setup.

Almost home from our little weekend away, so will be diving headlong into PCars 2 as soon as. Am going to ramp the AI up all the way - something I've admittedly not tried before - to see how I fair.

Seems like a good format, here's mine:

Arcade

Outrun 2006 Coast2Coast
Motorstorm Pacifc Rift & Apocalypse
Initial D Special Stage
Burnout 3
Tokyo Xtreme Racer
Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed (better than mario kart)
Trackmania
NFS Underground 1/2

Arcade Style

Project Gotham Racing series
Forza Horizon/Motorsport series
Dirt series
Grid series
Gran Turismo 3 (my first gt

NO FUN ALLOWED SIMS

Automobilista/rFactor (massive modding potential for almost anything)
Grand Prix Legends (i need to try this again, i wonder if all the community remake stuff is still up and will work on w10. I don't have a wheel so i suspect it will be futile
Baja Edge of Control HD (with sim steering and damage this is more like survival horror than racing)

Problem with pit stops. (PCars 2)

Race starts dry, then starts to rain quite heavily. I pit to change tires but nothing happens, the car just sits there.

In PCars 1 I could bring up the pit menu on my way in and select changes, but not in PCars 2. What am I doing wrong?

*edit* Sorted it. I was being a donut.

I had a weird pit glitch myself. Formula Rookie career, I did a few laps and went into pit to change some tuning settings and go back out. I head into pit lane, ai takes over, speeds fast as strawberry float into the neighbouring garage and then gets stuck in the wall.

Apparently for changes now you pause and do it from the strategy menu and then pit, I guess.

PCars 2 - PS4.

Even though I did manage to come first, this isn't a great performance. :dread:

70% AI, 40% Aggression, ABS off, TC low. All other driving aides off. Standard Dual Shock 4.

I got to be honest, I'm finding the sequel a little more punishing in certain areas than the first game and in the rain it's much more difficult. I'm all over the place in certain sections (where the rain has made the track super slick) and going embarrassingly slow in others.

Still, practice makes perfect. Any tips would be welcome.

As a fellow pad-using racer there are two options; swallow your pride and put some more assists on or get a wheel so you can really feel your pretend car moving about. As the latter isn't an option for me i have to go with the former. As stated by kaz yamauchi, simulation driving shouldn't be difficult.
