I'll probably end up getting it anyway because i'm a sucker for new racing IP and as long as there are no lootboxes etc, but a demo would go a long way to resolving or confirming my suspicions.

I'm actually going to go back a tad on what I said about more arcade styled racers as I've been playing PGR 4 this afternoon and it's still superb.

Onrush is out June 5th, usual preorder trinkets abound. After what has been said about this I am definitely waiting for reviews or maybe even a demo before deciding - if this was a straight motorstorm clone i'd be in day one, however some of their statements which are in this thread have given me cause for concern.

Similarly Gravel is out at the end of Feb, will keep an eye on scores for that too.

I prefer the look of Gravel. Straightforward, off road racing with no gimmicks.

My main concern with Gravel is that some of the offroad tracks look too wide, and that Milestone have an iffy track record of patching their games sufficiently. I still have a mountain of offroad games in my backlog anyway so am not in a hurry to add another at full rrp. If its cheap on pc somewhere like cdkeys.com or instantgaming i might take the plunge.

Playing PCars 2 this morning and came across a qualifying bug on Watkins Glen Short.

After a few laps, and setting a 4th place time so far, on moving through the double chicane from this point onward, even perfectly, your lap time is disqualified. This happens every time, even after a complete restart. WTF?

Same here.

What has me concerned most of all about this game is that you don’t race to win, you race for points and it artificially keeps everyone in the same pack so you can make aggressive moves and score points. That sound more like a Street Fighter than a racing game.

I wish they would just combine the graphics and weather of Driveclub with the lush environments of MotorStorm and just be done with it.

No stupid gimmicks. They should have learnt their lesson that no-one cared about the ‘club’ aspect of DC, and people want to play racing games to race...

Decided to get Pcars2 for the ps4 (using my housemates ps4 as I havent yet mived my PC)

Is there any decent cintroller setups about, it might just be me but I can't seem to getbon with the sticks (I' ve tried rimming - ha) and using the motion controls but still not getting to grips with either yet.

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

You have to tweak the motion settings to make the steering 1:1, the tooltips tell you which one it is.

For standard controls I found this chaps set up to be pretty bang on.

The Crew 2 is going to be the one I'm waiting on. I've used GTA V as a Midnight Club spin-off for so long that having an actual racing game that has car, boat, and air racing in one is one my list.
Tried NFS Payback on EA Access' trials, and I liked it. Felt as though it improved upon the mechanics of the 2015 game [which I'd also only played on trial], and had a better variety in its world. Sort of like Forza Motorsport 3.

I like the look of The Crew 2 but I cannot trust that ubisoft aren't going to mess it up with 5 different collectors editions, season passes, microtransactions and lootboxes. Unfortunately for me EA have absolutely shown they can't be trusted to not do all of that stuff with NFS.

Managed to set up the 1:1 motion steering but it feels a bit twitchy on the outer edges. Is there any wau to 'dampen' the outer sensitivity without butchering the rest of the set up?

Motion controls :dread:

Motion controls in a SIM :dread: :dread:

Rotating a control pad in mid air to control a SIM

Please don't do that. I'd recommend tweaking the stick sensitivity and or linearity over that nonsense.

Now for a more helpful post. (Please excuse the dirty nails :dread: )

No NOT use the stick like this:

Or push them from the sides like this (flicking)

Using them like this gives you rubbish control.

Instead rest your thumb across it like this (with the joint on top of the stick):

This makes it much easier to do very small steering movements as you move your whole thumb rather than just the tip.

Just saw something on steam that looks potentially amazing but extremely niche, Break Arts 2. The best way to describe it is either Armored Core Motorsport or Kerbal Racing Combat Mech Programme:

You build a combat racing mech (and their weapons) piece by piece before racing them very quickly. Its just over a tenner so looks pretty tempting, however i fear it would fall into my backlog and not get the attention it deserves.

Milestone's Isle of Man TT game launches on consoles March 6th

This year is getting pretty busy for racing games already.

That looks really good. Bet it's as hard as nails though.

Kunos announces Assetto Corsa Competizione - an official Blancpain GT game coming this summer, switches engine to UE4

Image

At least now they have an engine which a) can do day/night cycles because their own engine for AC couldn't handle multiple light sources :fp: and it should be a lot more optimised now.
