Overall GTS takes the crown for visuals. I've always thought this since the beta.

Erm, considering how long they take to make a GT game compared to Forza is it really that shocking that GT may have better visuals?
If the Forza guys had pretty much unlimited time and money like the GT people I'm sure they could create something that makes maximum use of the One X.

I think Forza 7 probably would look a lot better than Sport on X (and aspects of Forza already do and vice-versa) were it not for the fact it's doing real genuine 4K, which is a resource hog for truly minimal gains. You can't tell the difference between checkerboarding and native 4K, so put all that extra power into other things. Developers would be wise to 'do a Tomb Raider' and let the player decide what they want to do.

I'm enjoying it, although I could do with some more people on my friends list so I'm not just failing to get close to jiggles' times, PSN ID is Trellero.

Forza 7 is an iteration, so just like GTS they've been making it for years.

 I assume you mean in the driving lessons? I've only really been looking to hit gold and move on, but they do sometimes take in excess of 50 attempts.

I think it's the best online racer I've ever played, and by some distance.

I've decided to hold off investing any more time in creating car liveries until Polyphony release the functionality to import your own graphics into the game. I suspect that if they do eventually release said functionality it's going to come with a 20-page list of legal requirements (can't have too many 'cock-and-balls' and Beetles covered in swastikas running around Brands Hatch, after all). My worry is that there is a legal ban put on the use of real-world corporate logos. I kinda understand that it might be necessary (see: 'cock-and-balls', etc), but it would put a damper on a few ideas I have to create themed liveries. Frankly, I'll be surprised if Polyphony actually release this feature at all - seems to me that it's fraught with dangers, even if it would be a fantastic creative tool for those of us who want to use it responsibly.

Perhaps Polyphony could take the same path as Konami has with Pro Evo Soccer i.e. allow images to be imported and used, but they’re only visible in your game (in Online multi-player, other players only see the default graphics). Sure, people could upload cock pictures, record the racing and upload it to YouTube, but the core game wouldn’t be impacted.

GTS bagged the top spot for UK physical sales. While comparatively GTS sales were dwarfed by GT5 back in 2010, it did trump FM7.

I wonder how quickly copies of GTS will be traded in though, once the great unwashed realise the focus is online and not the traditional collectathon GT of previous years?

I dunno about that. I've spent hours in the game and I've played perhaps just three or four online games. The rest of the time I've been levelling-up, unlocking cars and earning in-game cash in Arcade mode (and a bit of Campaign mode). The focus really isn't online for me - and yet I'm getting as much out the game as I would have hoped.

I just don't think this is the game everyone is being told it is. Yes, it has online racing and a ranked online mode, too, but it's perfectly possible to treat GT Sport as a typical racing sim and just enjoy racing the AI, unlocking cars and tracks and making progress that way. It's working for me. Online, for me, is just an added optional extra (when it's working). Personally, I think racing against the AI is far better fun than trying your luck against idiots online. None of my online races have been half as good or as rewarding (in terms of earnings) as those against the AI. Just my thoughts.

I will definitely dabble in online semi-regularly, more to get the experience of racing real people than actually winning. More often than not i'm towards the back but i finish with a blue safety rating letter compared to the reds all around me; something i consider a minor victory.

I'm curious to see what they do with this regrarding more cars/tracks down the line and the eventual livery import feature. I checked out of gt6 before the track editor went live, so it would be nice to see that back and it could be a useful tool for tournaments, generating specific new circuits people have to learn from scratch rather than going "oh its brands hatch again".

I’ve not been anywhere near online yet and I’m having a good time.

I’m not sure how long a shelf-life an offline only GTS experience would be on average, but for me I’m happy to time trial around Suzuka or the ring and perfect my lines.

I downloaded the demo thinking I’d definitely wait for GT7 and more offline content. Then spent several very enjoyable hours just lapping the AMG and getting a feel for the handling and driving model. Put me very much in mind of one of my favourite games from way back - Indianapolis 500 on the Amiga. Very limited in terms of ‘content’, but a very satisfying and deep racing sim.

I cannot imagine ignoring the online in this. It's strawberry floating incredible.

With the sportsmanship rating in the forefront of everyone's mind, cleanly overtaking a closely-matched opponent is a thrill like no other. Seeing a rival buckle under your pressure and spin out to give you an easy pass is pure joy. The elation of getting pole then the immediate fear as realisation kicks in that all eyes are on you.

It's a testament to how excellent the racing is that I can start 12th, finish 10th, and still feel like I "won". Or where even finishing last can be an achievement if you drove well.

If you're D or E ranked for SR, yes, you will encounter some idiots, but above that, the fear of being thrown back down with the dicks is enough to keep everyone in check. Your SR is precious, and crucially, it's not related to your results. You could come butt last in every race you run, but still end up with the most considerate members of the community.

Interesting. Maybe it'll be enough for most then. :)

While I thoroughly enjoyed the short time I spent with the beta my copy of GTS is still sealed due to my still playing PCars 2. I will get around to it and having decided to not buy any more games for a while I'll certainly find the time.

That is what's driving me to keep going online and trying to improve compared to forza which is a shitshow by default. I think a big problem is that the career modes in most racing games prioritise winning to progress, and that progression lacks long-term consequences or context. Winning is great but look at most real motorsports; how many GT3 or F1 drivers win at all, let alone on a regular basis? This is something that gt sport will hopefully address to some degree.
