LMAO. This isn't even the 'next' GT, how does the studio get away with this?

It's an unwinnable situation for Sony though, they HAVE to just put up with this because if they don't and close them, you can bet Microsoft will swoop in and buy polyphony in all but name and then their rivals will have the game.

Surely the name Gran Turismo is what's shifting units though, they could have handed that brand to anyone.

I don't mind that these games are being made, I mean a lot of people obviously enjoy them. But it really strawberry floats me off when genuinely good games like Driveclub are not given as much time and are then sent out to die, resulting in studios being closed down. When the PS4 was first announced there seemed to be quite a lot of buzz for driveclub, I know that's the reason I got the console on day 1 for that game

Fair point, but look at arkham origins for an example of what happens when you give a beloved franchise to someone else - it's not rocksteady so is automatically not as good = less sales

I guess... but maybe another studio could make two games in the same space of time to negate that impact

I would imagine Polyphony continuing to make bad games is doing enough damage to the brand. I mean the drop off from 5 to 6 is pretty shocking even if it did still sell crazy.

But Microsoft basically already have the game, they just call it Forza. What would they gain by buying Polyphony that they don't have already with Turn 10, a bunch of fictional track layouts?

I think its as much a pride thing as anything else. The original Gran Turismo was the game that moved Sony from being a company that made great game hardware to being a company that made truly great software and hardware. They'd obviously has success with the likes of Wipeout but GT was a gamechanger for them.

I wonder whether VR or Neo have contributed to this? The fact that no alternative date has been set means this could be another Uncharted 4 situation.

That that that's bad, Uncharted 4 was polished as strawberry float.

Microsoft own a studio who make an arguably better game and are capable of producing a product to schedule. Why would they want this bloated mess of a company that spend years producing a game which looks dated on release?

In the past Polyphony have openly admitted to not even looking at competing products, including Forza.

A beta test is being undertaken and - whilst it is initially targeted towards USA gamers - it is expected that European gamers will be able to join in at a later date. Click here to find out more.

As always with gran tourismo it'll be used for pure time trialling. I've got project cars for decent racing.

Classic GT. I'll download it friday probably. I want it to be a radical new direction and an example of Polyphony actually getting with the times but I'm not holding my breath.
