Also, anecdotally (from other fora) it's a lot easier for neurodivergent people to parse discussions if they're broken up by page breaks. I guess I feel similar, and that I find enforced breaks useful. If I come into a thread and there are just 110 new unstructured posts I'll probably give up on it. If I can break that down into 6 pages that feels much easier.

Ultimately it's a mental thing, and like Imrahil I'll probably adjust. But I'll still prefer pages.

Old style BBcode actually does work, but the post essentially needs to be "edited" (i.e. add a space character or something) and then resaved so that flarum will interpret it and format it.

As a test I used Rinks's bargain thread - https://testing.grcade.co.uk/d/45162-45162/2

cool thanks

If it helps you can navigate away from a thread mid way through and come back and it should remember where you were.

I've added square(ish) avatars after a suggestion.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Yeah nice work, the square avatars look good and the dark mode works nicely.

Yeah, this is how most free scrolling services have worked for a while. You don't have to read the whole lot in one go, you can still drop out at a certain point and pick back up when you want

I am aware of that, but it doesn't really help for reasons I'll struggle to explain. It's more emotional than rational I'm aware, but it's an emotional feeling a lot of people will share. I suppose it's like not having scene breaks or chapters in a book and trying to find a good place to break for the night: there would probably be the same ups and downs in the action, the same natural lulls, but it'd still be a more awkward pick.

I am 100% with you on this. Most humans like things in bite sized, tangible, chunks, and pages (electronic or otherwise) are a great example.

Flarum does flag gaps in threads like extended periods with no posts, with a little break between posts saying "2 months later" or something similar, if you're looking for natural break points.

Obviously it doesn't help in continually active threads, but in those, page breaks are often a poor measure for this anyway, as flows of continuous exchanges end up getting broken up by arbitrary page breaks.

Pagination also results in posts at the bottom of pages receiving less attention, and you end up with people double posting to be seen at the top of the page.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Also, I've noticed there's no 'Members' button.

So we can't sort by post count and see Moggy's insane number of posts at the top of the pile.
