Forget everything in-between, a decade of music can only really be judged by what people are buying/streaming at the start and end of the arbitrary time period.

And so, GRcade has to decide on the best music decade, it is the only fair way to judge.

Note: I am only counting the first number 1 of a decade as being the opening song, I don't give a gooseberry fool if something was number 1 for weeks before.

Your options:

1950s (the official charts start in 1952):

First Number 1 of the Decade: Al Martino – Here In My Heart

Last Number 1 of the Decade: Emile Ford & The Checkmates – What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For

1960s:

First Number 1 of the Decade: Michael Holliday – Starry Eyed

Last Number 1 of the Decade: Rolf Harris – Two Little Boys

1970s:

First Number 1 of the Decade: Edison Lighthouse – Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)

Last Number 1 of the Decade: Pink Floyd – Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)

1980s:

First Number 1 of the Decade: The Pretenders – Brass In Pocket

Last Number 1 of the Decade: Band Aid II – Do They Know It’s Christmas?

1990s:

First Number 1 of the Decade: New Kids On The Block – Hangin’ Tough

Last Number 1 of the Decade: Westlife – I Have A Dream/Seasons In The Sun

2000s:

First Number 1 of the Decade: Manic Street Preachers – The Masses Against The Classes

Last Number 1 of the Decade: Rage Against The Machine – Killing In The Name

2010s:

First Number 1 of the Decade: Joe McElderry – The Climb

Last Number 1 of the Decade: Ellie Goulding – River

2020s:

First Number 1 of the Decade: Stormzy, Ed Sheeran & Burna Boy – Own It

Last Number 1 of the Decade: N/A (currently Beyoncé – Texas Hold ‘Em)

It's the 90s.

I voted 90's before reading the thread properly. :fp:

Clearly based on those selections it's the 00's.

The 80s is the 'best decade'.

The 90s is the best decade musically.

Based on the arbitrary requirements here though, I'll go for the 70's due to Pink Floyd, although Rolf Harris' Two Little Boys was tempting.

Same, but I stick with my choice as outside the chart 'hits' mentioned, the 90's had so much excellent music that its harrd not to vote for the decade.

The thread/poll have nothing to do with everything else in the decade.

But we've noted your love for NKOTB and Westlife.

00s obviously but I think 70s is a strong second place, quite like that Love Grows song.

00s but only because both tracks originated in the 90s.

Pink Floyd is the best track on that list. Musical taste on this forum is generally very questionable.

Voted 80s, 80s were the best decade for music and I love so many 80s songs. Although I do love the new metal, pop punk and emo music of the 00s.

Brass in Pocket is ok, but Band Aid II? Really?

My bad I didn't read the thread properly.

Changing my vote to 00s.

This, 100%. If it wasn’t for the RATM campaign, it would have been Joe Elderry, which is far more representative of the 00s.

Based on proper releases, the 70s is best.

90's.

It wasn't perfect, but it was a simpler time and generally seemed that little bit better.

Was it NKOTB or Westlife that decided it for you?

This is an interesting analysis of who does and doesn't read beyond the thread title
