Had he knocked Browne out with that flying kick, he would have just ascended

His last appearance? Didn't punk say he'd appear again and he had a multi contract fight?

Judging by the numbers they pulled because of him, you would assume so. Although apparently Dana said the UFC might not be for him.

Mickey Rourke had a decent record as an amateur before taking up acting and then had an okay run as a pro going undefeated in 8 fights, no idea what the calibre of the opponents were mind you and did leave with a horribly strawberry floated up face.

btw who on earth was the ref for the Werdum vs Browne fight? He looked about 5 foot tall but was jakked as strawberry float and was wearing a t-shirt about two sizes too small for him. Looked like a mini Brock Lesnar or something

Chael Sonnen has signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator.

And the farce continues. :fp: This is all obviously all about money primarily, but also boosting McGregor's ego and pandering to the plebs who fawn over him, rather than making the fights that should happen. Conor's so damn annoying, and gooseberry fool like this just diminishes the credibility of the UFC. You'd be so pissed if you were any other fighter; tying to work your way up the ladder and string some wins together, hoping to climb the rankings and ultimately gain a title shot. Then you see somebody else not held to the same rules and processes as everyone else; picking and choosing fights that boost their profile/bank balance, refusing to defend the belt and therefore denying other contenders their opportunity at being champion, changing weight classes at whim and fighting for LW belt over more legitimate contenders in that division...it's just gooseberry fool.

Wasn't Diaz ranked like #11 before the first Mcgregor fight, going 1:1 against someone that low shouldn't lead to a title match

UFC is engineering this like it's WWE. They want Connor to hold two titles at the same time, and they're making it as easy as possible for him to do it.

He's the 145 champ stepping up to fight the 155 champ at a marquee event in NY. Cannot see the problem with it - the fight is legitimate and its hardly Connor's fault nobody else in the 155 division can sell a fight like him.

Apart from Frankie you can argue he cleared out the 145 division on his way to the title and though an Aldo rematch would be good and match up with Alvare should be something to be savored. Does Connor have the power to hang at 155?

I have far more issues with Bisping v Hendo to be honest.

Yep. The UFC has been going down this road over the past few years and it's only going to get worse. One of the main reasons why I don't really give a gooseberry fool about it nowadays.

Must be close to a year since he last defended the title, and it'll probably be next year when he actually does. Anyone else not defending their title in that period of time would be stripped, didn't they do an interim heavyweight title fight or something not long ago because the champion was going to be out for four months or something like that?

Does seem ridiculous, having one of the great champions retiring because they won't give him a rematch. Totally unfair on Aldo.

The fact a fight announcement generates this much interest suggests it was good for business.

And while Connor remains as active as he has I have no issue with him moving up weights to fight for titles.

Aldo didn't defend his title before being dethroned by Connor for over a year and 3 months. That was less than a year ago.

He didn't defend it for that long due to injuries. McGregor has had plenty of opportunities to defend it since last year but hasn't due to his strawberry floating huge ego and the UFC pandering to him.

He's fighting the champion. How is it 'MMA Circus fuckery'?

Connor gets leeway because he turns up and puts bums on seats. He's transcended the sport and has thus earned the right to pick his fights. The fact he is willing to fight anybody -even on short notice should be applauded.

While Connor continues to put on exciting fights against legitimate opponents - I'll still be staying up to watch it.

That is absolutely WWE reasoning. He makes money, chase dat money. strawberry float all pretence of actually being a competition for the best fighters, it's chasing the pantomime act as they sell.
