GRcade Game Show Eliminator: NOMINATIONS CLOSED!

After receiving special dispensation from Lord Vermi of Sockland, I am going to run a new Eliminator. I think the title of the thread has already given away what the subject is, but first, let’s take a look back at previous GR eliminators.

Best Movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark

Best TV Show: Breaking Bad

Best Biscuit: M&S Extremely Chocolatey

Best Game: LOZ: Ocarina of Time

Best Band: Ash

Best Movie Character: Ellen Ripley

Best Movie Music: Who knows, Rex never finished it.

As we can see, the eliminator format always ensures we declare a rightful winner with no controversy at all…

And so, onto the new one!

As with previous eliminator games, we first need to decide on the candidates. In this thread you can nominate 5 gameshows and they will be put forward into the final game. I don’t know if we will ever get to 100 nominations, but I will keep the thread going for a week (unless we reach 100 before that).

The definition of game show for this game will be very loose. I am aware that people think there is a difference between a general knowledge quiz and a more entertainment based show and I really don’t care – they are all going to be counted as game shows. I am not sure about including comedy panel shows as there is usually very little real competition for points, but I will decide as we go along. Plus, I am nominating Taskmaster, so I can’t completely rule out the celebrity/comedian shows.

Your nomination doesn’t have to be British, we do not support Brexit here and so I will accept shows from anywhere in the world. But it can’t just be a foreign remake, Taskmaster would count as one show, I am not breaking it down into Taskmaster UK, Taskmaster US, Taskmaster NZ etc.

I think it's fair to include Taskmaster, as they have games to complete. But panel shows where they're just chatting, with superficial points/rounds only there to give it some kind of structure, shouldn't count. So as much as I like them, I'd say no to QI, WILTY and HIGNFY. Shooting Stars is borderline, but also a no, I guess.

Yeah that's basically my thinking. I'm not going to make a firm rule on it, but if somebody wants to include a comedy panel show then they're going to have to make a very good argument for it.

What about more sporting shows? I suppose Gladiators and all the obstacle course shows would count, but maybe not things like Superstars or Kick Start.

It's too difficult to make a rule on what counts and what doesn't. We can judge the controversial ones as we go along.

The Genius - Its hard to overstate how good this show is. Easily my favourite game show of all time.

Then I also nominate Kick Start, because it was brilliant.

It was such a good show, but I reckon it's just more sports than games.

But an excellent call on The Adventure Game and The Great Egg Race. I've never trusted aspidistras.
