Cheers man! :D I popped back today armed with a better camera (and less people to knock over) The last is the view as you walk in the room. So I'm pretty damn pleased with the spot I got.

Open shows are a good way of building up the CV. But they can be hit and miss and quite pricey sometimes to enter. Which just makes the pain of rejection sting more. I'll be entering this- http://www.thenationalopenartcompetition.com/

I am in awe of some of the fantastic art work in this thread, the quality is simply mind blowing! :o

It has been a while since I last posted anything in this thread, or on GRcade in general, but I am always around taking a look at the latest art work being uploaded! My stuff in particular isn't as creative or as high quality as most of the content posted here, as I mostly just produce fan art for films or videogames of my choice, but I hope you all don't mind if I post a link to my work here as well. Typically I post most of my stuff on deviantART, however I also have Twitter now which I basically use as a dumping ground for all of my completed, and work in progress content! I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd all take a look!

https://twitter.com/AdamVarnham

Should you wish to follow me there too, I'd be happy to return the favour!

There's a link to my devART page on my profile too should you wish to explore further! Like I said, I'm not exactly a great artist, but I sure enjoy re-creating or designing things based on existing artworks for games, and or art influenced by screenshots and that kind of thing! I thinks it's an awesome hobby to have, and one that takes great skill! Nothing quite beats the aftermath of uploading a piece of art work, and anticipating the response to it from friends and strangers alike!

For those of you that don't now, I got engaged on Christmas Eve, and I created a treasure hunt for the GF to follow around the house. There were 12 clues (riddles) which were printed onto the back of 12 pictures that Sandycoin created for me.

The final clue was that the 1st letter of each previous clue spelt out "will you marry me"

I sent him a load of photo's, with write ups, and Here are the pictures he did for me. Dude has talent.

Spoilered for big.

For some weird reason, some of the colours have changed when I uploaded the images.

SandyCoin you are ridiculously talented, kind of feel ashamed to post my work beside yours.

I've been working on some stuff for my portfolio - I'm hoping to get into a college or university to study graphic design/digital design. Something along the lines of that anyway.

Been working on these 2 over the last 2 days, both not completed yet as you can see. Theyre meant to be retro inspired video game posters of games I used to play as a kid. Would love to hear constructive crit (:

For the Jazz Jackrabbit one, what I actually want to do is have a shiny table with the gun lying flat on it being reflected on the table, and smoke coming up. But I need to be good at perspective and reflections and stuff so I'm just seeing if i can do a basic gun first. Lighting and angles gahhk

TWA, I've already commented but it's worth me saying again... terrific work, man!

I've not seen this thread before and it has been great to view the work of some astoundingly good artists. I will keep a closer eye on the thread in future, even though it's infrequently updated :-).

A quick behind the scenes look at the making of my Zelda piece-

It started just over a month ago with a few ideas buzzing around in my head. Looking at some art from the game and in Hyrule Historia. Before quickly sketching down the most prominent idea on the computer.

Image

I obviously wanted to play up the time travelling side of things. Why wouldnt you? It made sense to me to have the key to this, the Master Sword, as the center piece with Ganondorf the ever looming presence. But I had to work out what would best to represent each side. I felt that by having the Deku Tree and Ganon either side you effectively had the beginning and the end framing it. And it made sense to have adult Links side feature the minions of Ganon and the darker things of Hyrule. Allowing the cast of characters you meet as young Link to feature in his side. It was just a matter of trying to see what felt best where. at the beginning I didn't even consider the Ocarina itself. For a while early on I thought about having the bosses feature behind Ganondorf but realised early on it felt unbalanced. I considered putting them in with or instead of the other monster but I thought if I couldnt feature them all it would be best not to show any of them. Plus using the castles was far too a good idea. Heck even Nintendo did it!

Image

So eventually I started the real drawing....

Image

Which took a lot of time. But I was hoping I'd find some room to feature a few more things as I drew it out larger. Also gave me the chance to just play with the placement with the different objects. I was very concerned how I would layer the leaves of the tree and even how I would draw it knowing the colouring process. I was also not sure how I'd fit the castles in, but I came up with a little perspective tick that could help if things got tight.

Image

So after a couple of attempts and a weeks work I finished the pencil drawing.

Image

However, that only meant it was time to break open the pens! I usually do my drawings with a dip pen but I decided to try something new to see if it would change the way I drew it.

Image

I really love the bold shadows of the Majoras Mask art so wanted to use that rather then rely too much on lines to create form. But wasn't sure how far too push it. So here I'm playing with how the shadows might work. In the end I felt putting them on the faces was too much and would make an already busy and cluttered image even more so.

Image

One of the biggest problems I face was working out how to deal with Rutos head. Namely the way the colour changes, the way the I use line and colour doesn't work naturally with this so I had to come up with a way showing it that fitted. In the end I added some texture to it to help disguise the line that separates the colours. So after another week the ink drawing was done. But it was only at this point I 100% decided to add the Ocarina. I had to find just the right size so it didn't obstruct the Triforce. But didn't look so tiny it was pointless.

Image

Having then scanned the drawing in. I began the colouring process. I'm no photoshop expert really. But I've developed a way of getting things done and knew I'd need everything I'd done before and more to finish this. I immediately worked on the leaves of the Deku tree as I knew I'd need to make sure that worked first. I must admit I was well chuffed with the outcome. It felt like it had enough detail but wasn't so busy that it catches the eye. So it just drifts into the background a bit.

Image

Apart from the usual issues of colouring it in I had many a decision to make on the correct colours to use. Then finding a balance between the sheer amount of colours. Right up till near the end the Poes eyes were red, like the official artwork for the game. However, the in game versions had white eyes. So I went with that. I basically did this with everything, checking the officially produced art with concepts and the in game visuals. Of both the original and 3DS versions. I also knew that getting the skin tone was vital.

That's insane!

I'm pretty good at drawing, but looking at that makes me realise I'm too lazy to put the care in to making something like that. I can never put the base work in and I just seem to skip straight to trying to draw something perfect in one go, and it's always gooseberry fool :fp:

Nice work :datass:

"Behind the scenes..."...amazing stuff. This work has helped push the GRcade Plays Ocarina initiative into legendary class! We'll now need a new TWA artwork for every future event :-).

EDIT: It'd be cool to see Ad7 get arty within the pages of GRcade, too...
