PostGRcade Japan Trip 2009 - 01/06/09 - JUST DO IT

Ok, Alpha's thread got me thinking - I want to go to Japan and so do some of you lot. So instead of waiting for someone else to organise a trip I could (try and) do it myself.

What I want to know at the moment is how many people would seriously think about going? If you want to go, what would you like to do? What sort of place would you like to stay in? I'm prepared to do most of the footwork and sort everything out if people genuinely want to go. This has the potential to be epic.

Also, if you're not interested but have advice you want to help/contribute please do.

Date: 01/06/2009
Cost: Flights via Japan Air from London will be around £570 inc taxes.
Location: Tokyo is a given, I'd quite like to see Kyoto for a day or two.
Activities: Trip To Disney Sea, Trips to Akibara, Karaoke, Drinking, Resturant Trips, Pulling and MORE!
Interested Parties:
Exception OE, LewisD, Roonmaster, buffaloman, StayingDead, John Galt, Denster + more!

Deadline: N/A at the moment. I'd hope to get most of the details (dates and flights) sorted some time early next year.

What we need:
-Confimation of who can go
-To find a good (read cheap and chearfull) hotel or hostel
-Activities, this shouldn't be too hard. :D

Also, April may be a bit too soon.. flights will be more expensive and hotels also.

Me and Aaron booked ours in the August for the following April and that was quite pricey as it was...

You might want to guess again, mate. Or at least when I last checked anyway.
I'd go, like.

Not a chance. Too much money, and japanese culture doesn't interest me at all.

Just gathering interest for now. :D Hopefully enough people will be up for it. If you have any dates you'd prefer just say. I'm not bothered myself.

I'm interested too. I think the best time for me would be around Easter although the start of summer (later June/early July) could probably work as well.

I think you seriously want to be looking at about £2000 at least for a 2 week trip. You've got about £700-800 for flights,
£15-40 a night on accommodation depending on how convenient/luxury you want - so about £200-600 for 2 weeks,
at least £50 a day for food and activities - probably nearer £100 for expensive visits, and then on top of that you'll want to buy loads of geeky stuff.

I'm still interested though.

Would we want the trip to be 2 weeks though? I was just looking at a week myself.

Would you stay the whole duration this time though?

As much as I'd really want to go I doubt I'd be able to afford it. Make it 2010 and I may be able to make it if I start saving now.

Register me as interested. And I agree, one week would be preferable, I find that two weeks is usually about 4 days too long.

I'd want at least 10 days. Like you've suggested, seeing somewhere other than Tokyo would be great but if you have to account for time to travel there then 7 days really isn't a lot. I don't really want to sit on a plane for 12 hours only to do it all again in 7 days either. Obviously if some wanted to stay longer than others it probably wouldn't be an issue (LewisD LOL).

You're right. 10 to 14 days would be better, but people could split early if they wanted or needed to.

I'd love to go, but alas, now I am a poor student.

Good job my third year is in Japan. Woo baby.

Anyone from here is welcome to stay at mine when I'm out there, by the way. 8-)
