Denster wrote:...Special mention to Dragon64 - he bought me the DLC for Mario Kart 8 in the WiiU - just so I didn’t have to wait till payday. Never forgot that the solid bloke. It’s typical of the generosity and community spirit that we have here...

That's a good shout, Denster. From experience, and awareness of similar occurences with a few other GRcadians, that incident was by no means a "one-off". Super Dragon 64 is a diamond; he hasn't posted here quite so much in recent months due to his study and work commitments but it's always a pleasure when he does pop in.

I'm conscious and honoured that a couple of folk have mentioned my name but please remember that I don't qualify for the newbie award (I've been here nearly six years :-) ) and, for the "Decade" award, I'd urge nominations for people who have been here a bit longer and help to run the place. Their workload is perhaps often unseen but absolutely vital in keeping GR alive!

- - - - - - - - - -

The  Award for: GRcade's Funniest Comedian
Moggy. On one or two occassions we've had our differences ( ) but far more often he has made me smile!

The  Award for: Best Newbie
OrangeRakoon. It seems like OR has been around for ages... and that's a compliment! A cool guy who gets involved in stuff. And he recommended Morphite to me!

The  Award for: Member We Wish Would Post More
Mockmaster. Man, myth or legend? I keep an eye on his Tweets but I'd love to see him back here.
Pedz. He has been on a sabatical for a few months now and I hope he returns soon. The guy introduced me to thw worlds of Discord chat and Twitch streaming  .
Grum. I speak to Grum a lot in game streams but he is a quieter guy here in GR.
NBK. The dude hasn't been around for some time and it'd be great if he popped up again.
Cheeky Devlin. Obvs CD does post fairly regularly but, to me, he stands out at making pretty observant points when some of us get a little carried away.
Octoroc. Hopefully re-locating to the wilds of Preston will see him press his keyboard more regularly. You can't stop the 'Roc.

The :toot: Award for: Member of the Decade
Karl. The guy has to deal with *so much* cack in running GR   . You can't please all of the people all of the time but Karl has a knack of striking a good balance.
Green Gecko. GG sometimes makes my brain hurt with his lengthy posts ( ) but I am a huge fan of both his openess and how he maintains the GR tech that keeps the forum running :toot: .

Some other folk that I just want to mention
Errkal. GR-Bot, GR Twitter, GR Facebook, GR View... the guy has put so much time and effort into creating / improving these GR channels!
The Watching Artist. Matt inspired me to think about art again for the first time in years; and introduced some of us to the wonders of Classic Doctor Who through the Who Club and the Twitch Who Marathon :-).
Jazzem. So positive, approachable and inclusive. A dang fine fellow!
Denster. He took time out to offer help during a difficult period; I shan't forget that  . Note: it wasn't sexual healing  .
LewisD. For stepping in unasked to offer help (a game purchase and earplugs re neighbours!)... really nice gestures.
Seven. For putting up with my endlessly noob questions about FF XIV  .

I now feel bad because I know that, within five minutes, I'm going to realise that I've missed someone(s) who I really should have mentioned here.

You guys

My nominations are below. Apologies to anyone who I've missed - I tend to just skim through the forum these days and wasn't as involved in the early years as I have been over the past few. Nonetheless, here's to another 10 years and more! :toot:

The  Award for: GRcade's Funniest Comedian
Denster: There are many moments but Denster + Green Shell = always sticks out :shifty:
jawafive: You can never have too many jawas and this one did well to 'fit in'
Jazzem: A lot of people bring a lot of life to the Discord chat during gameplay but you know that you're in for a laugh when Jazzem is online whether it's through his own chatter or the nicknames that we give him  :P
Hyperion: Mario Kart Mondays are a huge amount of fun but Hypes manages to add even more hype to each week :toot:

The  Award for: Best Newbie
jawafour: He'll always be a newbie to me
OrangeRakoon: It has been great to see the SONM crew posting on GRcade and they quickly integrated so well that I forget that they haven't been here for longer. OR stands out thanks to his wonderful efforts in helping to facilitate that transition from SONM.

The  Award for: Member We Wish Would Post More
Mockmaster: Mockmaster was always a key driving force in not only keeping the forum alive with Games and Stuff (The Eliminator was incredible and came out of nowhere to be one of my favourite forum events) but also help keep us all in check. It's a real shame that he doesn't post here anymore but it's comforting to know that he's still reading and keeping an eye one us
Pedz: I got to know Pedz best through online gaming (not only Mario Kart but also Splatoon and the short-lived PC gaming Fridays) so reading his posts was always a good way to kind of stay in touch especially as I wasn't often free to watch his streams. Sadly both his posting and streaming seem to have dried up but I'd love to see him return

The :toot: Award for: Member of the Decade
Cheeky Devlin: This guy. This guy can do it all. I remember first really engaging with Devlin when Rocket League launched and we played online with others from the PC crew. Those were incredible times and second only to Mario Kart in terms of online fun (I loved the CSS days but Rocket League was a lot more fun because I wasn't as bad at the game).

Fast forward a little to the launch of Mario Maker and I had no idea how much I'd interact with this guy just because of that game. Initially I saw that he was recreating Super Mario Land in MM and I decided to try my hand at recreating Super Mario Land 2 which is one of my favourite games ever. Of course, that's the least of Devlin's herculean efforts with Mario Maker as he's since run three absolutely incredible Are You A Master Mario Maker? competitions. The difficulty of creating so many levels (and it really is hard to come up with ideas) is nothing compared to the effort that Devlin put in each week when streaming his playthroughs of the levels, keeping the contest organised and alive in the thread and the absolutely fantastic closing ceremony videos that he created.

Of course, that's not all that Devlin has done for us. He was a key member in reviving the GRcade podcast and did a fantastic job with 2.0. I love playing video games and talking about them so this was a great way to expand on the latter in a new medium as I was lucky enough to take part in a few episodes. Building on his work with the Podcast, Devline also worked tirelessly around E3 to create a series of podcasts about each of the conferences. Producing just one single podcast takes a lot of time and effort so I can't thank Devlin enough for taking this to the next level and giving us our own comprehensive coverage of E3.

His creativity shines through in everything that he does and, while I may have forgotten some things, let's not forget Devlin's Arcade Attacks series was both informative and entertaining - I had no idea that we had our own retro nirvana of knowledge in one of our forumites. Devlin has even shown his philanthropic side on the forum through his incredible dedication to Sick Kids Save Point over the years. And even as recently as these past few weeks, he's shared his own paradise with us when our old one was taken offline :shifty:

What a guy

Green Gecko: We wouldn't still be here without the fantastic efforts of Gecko. He literally will work around the clock to make sure that the forum is not only live (even in the midst of a DDOS attack) and keep the rent paid (sometimes out of his own pocket). It's really easy to take this place for granted when we visit everyday and even easier to forget the people behind the magic but let's at least take this moment to appreciate the foundations that have been maintained for 10 years.
Karl: Karl is not only integral in the running of the forum on a technical side, he has also contributed a lot to it creatively. I enjoyed co-hosting the GRcade podcast with him when Devlin stepped down as host and look forward to returning again as either a co-host or guest. He has even donned the mod hat to keep us all from tearing each other apart and still gives us his time as both an administrator and lovable forumite. The place really wouldn't be the same without someone like Karl who can float gracefully between a technical/moderation role and regular member but Karl does a great job and I'm always happy to see him posting.
jawafour: If ever there's a person who will always look on the bright side, it's jawa. His optimism and friendliness are truly unparalleled and seeing his username is always a joy. The fact that he takes part in as much as possible, even online gaming where
The Watching Artist: A lot of people helped to make Mario Kart Mondays a success but The Watching Artist would not only show up as much as possible, he pushed me and the others to get better thanks to his cheating ways robotic skills sheer luck impeccable driving. Whether it was just the two of us racing or I was nipping at his heels from second place ahead of the other 10 racers, I always knew that he'd be there, even if he wasn't racing.

I think the logical choices for member of the decade are Karl and Gecko - they've both put ludicrous amounts of time and effort into the technical side of things on the forum and we literally would not be here now if not for their efforts.

Really appreciate the mentions guys, it's made my surprise "oh wow I woke up" Monday morning a pleasure. I never feel I'm doing quite as much as possible (that's just how I am with everything in my life) and there's always something to do but I consider that a gift. This place is so special. Thanks

I always find these threads challenging and tend to abstain out of sheer indecision, my brain is literally full of hundreds of usernames and events over the years I have little way of fairly sorting it, but there are definitely some name in here I couldn't praise more for their efforts here.

Can we just have a joint award and give it to Gecko and Karl? Seems the only right decision IMO.

Cheers man. I tried to maintain a middle ground in most things and it's rare that something sends me to one extreme or the other (Say absolutely loving or hating something), so I do tend to find myself taking an "It's got it's flaws but it's not totally irredeemable" stance quite often (I'm going to term this the "Other M" position going forward). I don't post quite as much as I used to a year or two ago, but that's because I was in-between relationships at the time and had nothing else to do.

Sweet, sweet recognition. :datass:

Seriously though man thank you for that. When threads like this come around I never expect to see myself listed in them, as to me there are people that contribute so much more than I do. I'm glad you've enjoyed the stuff I've put together and while I'm not doing as much as I once did (See my reply to Jawa) I love contributing different things to the place I've called home on the Internet for 16 years (Joined GR back in 2002 I believe). I'm hoping to get back to doing some videos again at some point. Whether that's reviving ARcade Attacks or something new I'm not sure, but it's been in the back of my mind for a while now.

The Podcast was fantastic fun to begin with, but ultimately I just wasn't enjoying the process of editing it. That and the amount of work going into it was what led to me handing it off to Karl who has done an amazing job with it.

E3 was similarly a lot of work, but very rewarding. I'm glad I took a year off from it this time around as I wanted to be able to enjoy it without the pressure of having to cut, edit and export 9-10 2 hour videos. The fact it was a bit of a "down" year was good as I doubt I would have enjoyed it as much anyway. I'll be back with it next year though.

AYAMM has always been great fun, even if it was a shorter, less elaborate one this year. It's definitely on a permanent hiatus for now, but once we have a Switch port released it'll be back.

But again I'm glad you've enjoyed it.

Now for me the MVP's are easily Karl and Gecko. Top blokes.
