I'll definitely be doing Banjo-Tooie after this! Really enjoyed BK so far. :toot:

Excellent. 8-)

Think I'm done with the next world, Terrydactyland, for now. Its hard to know when you should move on sometimes. Pretty sure you need new skills and to backtrack to get 100% for every level. Apart from the last one I assume. Anyway, I've really enjoyed this level. The character switching/transformation thing is a really pain in the backside, possibly the worse case of it so far but the ends are worth it. Probably the level that has felt most like a level from the original so far. But its much bigger.

I've learned the Breegull Bash move.

God, swimming in this is so annoying.

Maybe it was just so ingrained in me but I really dont struggle all that much with swimming. Unless the camera is being an arse.

Minor Tooie update. I've turned Kazooie into a fire breathing Dragon!

Forgot about the honeycomb pieces!! Just 100% Clankers Cavern after drowning the first time. Back to Mumbo's Mountain and the beach to find those pieces!!

Holy washing machines........ The next level of Tooie, Grunty Industries, is bloody complex. It gave me a headache trying to work out how to get in. :dread: I've found 5 jiggies so far. But spent 3 hours in it. On one hand the level is genius. Cunningly designed and almost like a dungeon in Zelda. On the other, its frustrating and tedious. I think this is the sort of level where the character switching really hurts the level design. Although I do have some issues with the level, namely some of its enemies. In Tooie enemies respawn. Personally I think they respawn too quickly but its not too bad because most enemies are easy to deal with. However in Grunty Industies, there are security systems in a lot of the rooms, if a camera spots you then bots are released into the room and will keep on attacking you until you either leave or destroy the camera and then them. Of course if your clever you can shoot the camera first. But it respawns as quickly as every other enemy in the game. IT'S INCREDIBLY ANNOYING. :x :x :x It's a brilliant level. But it's hard work.

But I did meet an old friend. :toot:

I've managed to move on having dealt with Grunty Industries. It was a bit like the Water Temple of Banjo levels. Brilliant but could prove too much for some. But the character stuff is way more of a pain then switching iron boots. I'm now in Hailfire Peaks. A level which clearly inspired some of Mario Galaxy. :shifty: It's quite wonderful but really hostile at first. Quite maddeningly so. I've dealt with most of the level (in half the time I spent in GI) so it wont be too long before I fly off to the final world.

I was never fond of Tooie for many of the things you mention in your playthrough. It's just too damn big and there's way too much to collect (though not as much as DK64). Some of the minigames are downright bad and the framerate suffers a lot as well. The went too big with their scope. Should have been a smaller, more contained sequel.

Really enjoyed the minigames so far. (although I think there are too many of them) They are simple enough that I usually do in one attempt so it keeps them fresh. But the Mumbo magic (despite being cool) and some of the transformations are often quite cheap. In Witchworld for example, you turn into a van whose only purpose is to pay for entry into various attractions. A lot of it is just effectively a long winded way of opening doors. So far only one Mumbo power has given me a new ability, which was the first and let me control a big statue. Everything else is just a cut scene and something happens. The boss fights are much more of an event and outside of that one terrible one :dread: :dread: :dread: have all been solid additions.

I'm really enjoying it and have loved playing it again but its like you have to take an extra step to reach the good stuff each time. If some of it was a little streamlined then its bigger ambition would be less of an issue.

I've just downloaded it on the 360 and got 100% on the first two worlds. I was disappointed to learn that you can't out the CHEAT codes into Treasure Trove Cove anymore....

I'm very keen to go through Tooie, as I never completed the N64 original, despite having it since launch. But reading through your playthrough just reminds me of all the reasons I didn't get on with it the first time.

It's a lovely update on the 360 though, I wish Rare would get round to doing some more ....

Just up to Mad Monster Mansion and I'm absolutely loving my trip down memory lane. The camera is really poor, but Freezeezy Peak was a treat and the music is just wonderful.

I really wish Rare would update Jet Force Gemini and CBFD in the same manner and I really wish we could get more of these type of adventure / platform games again.

Just got 100% on Rustybucket Bay, I completely forgot just how difficult it was. The camera made some sections exceptionally frustrating and I felt like it was much more like a level in Tooie.

On to Click Clock Wood now...

Click Clock Wood is absolutely glorious, so clever and such a beautifully designed world. It's such clever level design and really reminds me of OOT or Mario64, just up to Autumn now .

It's great to hear that you're enjoying the playthrough, Billbones!

Man, I remember writing down all of those cheat codes back when the classic Digitiser published them on teletext. I've never used 'em, though!

Do you also have the 360 version of Tooie?

I'm missing two notes in Mad Monster Mansion, and it's really pissing me off.

You can still use them but if you do the game won't save and you can't be entered onto the leaderboards. I was always a big fan of givethebearlotsofair it made the swimming sections bearable.

I'm going to download Tooie as soon as I've defeated Gruntilda, is the Grcade playthrough continuing for Tooie? I never finished it back in the day so could do with the motivation!

Been in every window in the mansion? Been in the basement? Got all the notes in the maze? Down the drain pipe? Inside the church (on the pews and on the organ)…er…*strains memory*

I'm nearing the end of Tooie. I've 100% Hailfire Peaks. Was a pretty good level. Contained one obtuse cross level jiggy though. :dread: The double boss fight was pretty fun. Silly transformation but with an interesting little trick. Level is quite hard to piece together. But not as hard as Grunty Industries. One very funny cameo and the aliens

Got most of Cloud Cuckooland done to. It's a surreal level. I rather like its open nature. But most of the main parts can only be reached via a cave in the middle so you spend a lot of time there. The room itself isn't that interesting which is one of the drawbacks. However, the hub music for this level......

Anyway. Back to work on a drawing! :shifty:
