An Epic Journey Awaits Us...

Thought this might be an idea with the re-release last week. A lot of us picked it up, some for the first time, so we should have no trouble forming some sort of community playthrough, offering some nice discussion, analysis and assistance for newcomers, as we all make our way through this incredible game.

We could set up (non-spoiler) checkpoints for people to reach on some sort of weekly schedule (like in the Paper Mario thread) if people wanted, or we could just have everyone go at their own pace through it, I'll leave that up to anyone who wants to take part.

So post your support here, and whether you'd like this to have an official schedule, and I'll add you to the list of AVALANCHE members.

C'mon newcomer. Follow Me.

I've got the PC version of the game, few hours in on another playthrough and am just past the plate falling on Sector 7. So I'm on my way to Aeris house to plot my next move.

Played through it several times so I should be a decent help, I'm in.

I have played this more or less once a year since release however since my old laptop broke I havent played it in 3+ years. PSN has given me that chance! I started again as soon as it was released and im 8hrs in just having got past the first gold saucer visit.

Amazingly I have only just noticed that materia affects your base stats and that too much magic reduces strength and physical attack. So the dilema is now whether to equip it for AP gain or leave it off some characters to provide brute force?

I love the battle system of this game it has so much scope for option and stategy, so much more than any other FF I have played.

I know the game like the back of my hand so im here to offer advice and guidance to any lucky souls experiencing it for the first time! Im also aware that without prior knowledge some boss fights can creep up on you and others need proper preparation. Im guessing a lot of the fun is trying, failing then adapting your approach. However it can be annoying to lose a hours progress over a suprise boss!

Frankly jiggles I am shocked that you would be so bold as to plagiarize me while we're still in the inaugral GRplayde event. Shocked and appalled.

FF7 was actually going to be a nominee for the next event and I was hoping to play through it, having never done so before, but the timing of this disgusting attack you've launched on me renders it impossible.

If you would have the common decency to delay this charade until I've finished Paper Mario I may join you. As for now, Im so blind with rage I am unable to discuss your plagiarism further.

I might play along with you, but of course that'd mean juggling IX & VII at the same time. :(

After downloading last week I have to say it seems to have aged quite well, but the translation is a bit dodgy (something you miss when its 1997 and you're only 14). At the minute im also playing through Skies of Arcadia and I gotta say I seem to actually prefer it these days due to the fact is breaks so many genre cliches and is actually a lot of fun.

I think I'm one of the few people who played it in the PS1 days, enjoyed it, but didn't play through it a second time around. I've started this second play through now thanks to PSN and my PSP. Incredibly I'm a couple of hours in, and recognise everything I've seen so far. Speaks wonders for the quality of the game that it left such an impression over such a long period of time. :)

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

I downloaded this even though I had the disc version (well, missing the third like, so I guess I have an excuse). I'm going to do the same with MGS1 (even though I have it in mint physical condition), I have this strange feeling of just buying PSone titles to support that aspect of the service.

Can you download this from PS3 to PSP? If so, I might have to convince my brother to give me his PSP for my travels.

Aye, simply download it to your PS3 and transfer it over.

Or you can download it straight to your PSP, but it was quick for me to download it on teh PS3 and then copy it over!

Completed it so many times back in the day. Although I would enjoy it, I'm going to leave the PSN edition and not replay it for a good couple more years (already own original and platinum version).

To all those who haven't completed it, stick with it till the end, its worth it.

An interesting question - the new PS3's don't have SD slots, do they?
