#18 - Make Room For Splatoon

Karl and the gang are back for some summer gaming chat! It's a season for trying new things, so sure enough Shanker (aka SD64) dips his toes in the pool of VR, Pete (aka Pedz) tries out the Ys series plus the old familiar sights of the Disney Afternoon Collection, and Karl paints the town a whole bunch of luminous colours as Splatoon 2 hits his Switch.

#19 - Now For Something Sort Of Different

It's all change on The GRcade Podcast... sort of... Karl's back to head up a slightly different, more in-depth look at some topics we've had on our minds. Just how frustrating can competitive multiplayer games be? Can gaming with GRcade be less so? Or are we the real problem, when we decide there's nothing holding us back from taking over the world but ourselves...

Joining Karl this week are Pete (aka Pedz), Shanker (aka SD64), and Kris (aka Cuttooth).

0.55 - The Frustrations of Competitive Multiplayer: (Overwatch, Street Fighter V, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, Rocket League, Counter Strike)

32:18 - Moral Dilemmas Being a Warbastard: (Civilisation VI, Spec Ops: The Line)

53:00 - Play Games With GRcade!

We also have new music to play us in this week. Let us know what you think:

Somebody Else's Memory by Revolution Void

Would anyone like to join us tonight to record the next podcast? The plan is to talk about game delays which was an idea that came about from Sonic Mania's PC delay. You can bring in your own examples as we talk.

#20 - The Waiting Game

Karl's off on his holiday's this week so no podc- wait! It's Shanker (aka Super Dragon 64) stepping in to the role of host! A slimmed down podcast this week sees Pete (aka Pedz) join him to talk about the various ways video game delays can frustrate them.

Discussed are, among others, Crackdown 3, Sonic Mania, Divinity: Original Sin 2, and The Long Dark.

And playing us in this week:

Somebody Else's Memory by Revolution Void

I listened to the last two podcasts back to back on Tuesday and have to say, I think 19 was my favourite one ever. Balanced discussions all round and for once hearing how other people also don't enjoy playing with others online.

Great stuff.

Could this get a permanent spot on the main page of the website? Maybe a link to the latest episode or even it's own sub forum thingy? A lot of work goes in to them and they get buried in here.

#21 - Objectively Outrageous, This Should Be At Least #12

And coming in at #21 in our definitive Top 100 GRcade Podcast Episodes is: Objectively Outrageous, This Should Be At Least #12.

In this September 2017 classic and off the back of an Edge Top 100 special, the now well established podcast host, Karl, is joined by Stuart (aka Captain Kil) and Kris (aka Cuttooth) to discuss where they all stand on the concept of ranking video games in lists, and whether numbers just get in the way sometimes.

Playing us in:

Somebody Else's Memory by Revolution Void

And in at #20- wow how did this get in? Who decided this ranking, this is a disgr-[that's enough of that].

The thread is always pinned, so it should always be at the top of the Games folder.

The current episode should always be in the OP as well, though I do sometimes forget to update that.

In addition the whole lot should be available on iTunes as well.

Anything more though and you'd really need to talk to Karl and the guys who actually do the Podcast, as I only really deal with the iTune publication at this point.

Another good one guys.

For me, I don't read reviews at all any more due to how prevalent spoilers are, and how reviewers love to just casually toss in things that I'd love to have discovered myself. I scroll straight to the bottom and check the number. 10 or 9 is a guaranteed buy if I was already interested , 8 or 7 is a buy if recommended to me by others and the rest I will never bother with unless it's free at some point.

As for other podcast discussion ideas, I was thinking id love to do a room 101 style episode, where you have 3 guests who each have one thing, a games and a stuff item they want to banish. You then have to talk the interviewer into saving or binning each. Basically room 101 for games

It's great having feedback, more so that it's positive.

What did you think of episode 20? I'm wondering if it works with only 2 people?

Great podcast. I listened to it on the plane last.

Cuttooth makes a good point about how ranking older games tends to lead to people considering their memories about the games, not how they hold up more.

I like Kil's idea of simply grouping genres together as a set of recommended games instead of trying to assign everything an objective ranking. As he said, it's hard to compare am FPS to an RPG though something can be said for ranking them by how well they'd appeal to fans of the genre. Of course, this still makes ranking them all up to 100 seem kind of pointless.

Karl's opinions are a infallible as ever :P

Great work, everyone :toot:
