I listened to the newest episode on my walk to work this morning (My podcast cherry! I'm so out of touch).

Enjoyed it. Not enough Pedz for my liking (We want pedz!).
One thing though, does Karl keep saying "Yo" or a really shortened version of "Y'know" ?

I want to imagine him as a well spoken 1990s Miami Surfer.

'Y'know' and 'kind of' are the two recurring ones.

Karl is so young and posh sounding, I imagine him to look like McLovin' but in a suit, like a trainee salesman at a bmw dealership.

It's definitely "y'know". I'll try to remember to slip in a "yo dude" for you next time Lewis. ;) I like to imagine my verbal tics driving Ad absolutely mental.

I feel kind of bad about you discussing the Parapod in this thread. It's like you shouted another guy's name. :(

I listened to the podcast. It was pretty hard as somebody who primarily likes indie games it was a difficult to listen to. I especially like rougelike games, especially Spelunky and the Binding of Iscaac. The think I like about those games is that you can feel satisfied after about half an hour of playing.

Also they have a pick up and play quality that very few AAA games have. Often you spend a long time in
AAA games watching cut scenes or doing training stuff. I like something that just lets you do your thing and doesn't force you in to hand holding or tons of cut screens.

Also Karl what do you think about retro games like Super Mario Brothers? Do you find the lack of production value diminishes your experience?

Super Mario Bros. has excellent polish for the kind of game it is. It introduces its ideas naturally through the game design and has intuitive controls with clear visual and sound design.

Can you give more of an example of the lack of production in indie games then?

Last indie game I played was ICEY. I don't think it's really a bad game. But for me it didn't do enough to ease me in or guide me along the experience for me to want to stick at it. By "ease" and "guide" I don't necessarily mean tutorials or point-to-point linearity, I mean a gradual layering of the gameplay systems in a way which is intuitive, addictive, and makes in-universe sense. Its UI elements were shoddily designed too (in your comparison, the original Super Mario Bros. doesn't really have a UI), and enemies sometimes blended into the background (not a problem classic Mario has!). I kind of add all that together and describe it as 'unpolished'.

That was mentioned in the podcast. I was tempted to buy it when it was on sale the other day but haven't yet due to a lack of cash. So I can't really comment. I sort of know what you mean. I'm probably more tolerant to those kind of problems. That said I think there are a ton of well designed indie games out there.

Sure. There are some games that I can play despite them having polish issues (let's be honest, Dark Souls) but it's really tough for me because I get annoyed easily ;)

#23 - State Of That Podcast

Congratulations, you've earnt enough GRcade Podcast XP for a free Gold Podcast Pack! What team can you gather together from it?

*pop* You've bagged yourself a Karl (fifth duplicate) as host!

*pop* OK, this is shaping up nicely with Stuart (aka Captain Kil) and Kris (aka Cuttooth) joining with special Halloween event costumes! [rrp £4.99]

*pop* Woah, an extra one? Wait, it's Adam (aka Ad7)! Is he here purely to talk floor decor? Only the 'optional' Discussion Crate will know...

*BOOM* It’s a one time use Loot Box & Microtransactions topic. Which explains where all this came from...

That was a good one, a fairly uncontroversial position i think overall (sorry Buff) with some good discussion.

I have also convinced someone completely unconnected with gr to subscribe, so i hope that helps.
