This seems as good a place as any for this - I'm looking at making a small display of some of my retro games on a book shelf type unit I have in my games room. The original intent was to just have my racing stuff out, but as you can see from this photo I actually have far more than I realised (that's two layers high of ps1 games on the left). I have nothing to actually stand them up with so there's a very high chance of my fragile cases all toppling over and smashing if the unit gets bumped (which is quite likely). Anyone got reccomendations for some multi purpose individual stands? The ones i have seen all seem really over engineered acrylic jobs which are pretty expensive. I really only need fold out type stands that can stop the various sized stuff toppling over. Maybe some tiered bits to make ones at the back be higher. Who knows.
(Excuse the random books). I may also make each part something specific, maybe a dedicated ps1 part, maybe some gameboy stuff, who knows.
First thing is to decide exactly what you want to display. It maybe looks like you've got a bit too much on there (although I know you're still using the shelf for actual storage!)
Second thing might be to reconsider the unit itself as I think the partitions make it harder for you to display exactly what you want how you want it. This could be as simple as removing them and placing a decorative covering underneath your collection to hide the empty screw holes, or using white screw hole caps.
In terms of the stands, have you considered making them yourself? The base of the game box already forms two thirds of a tripod so all you need is a third leg (chortle!) and the boxes should be stable. If you imagine a narrow ribbon of sheet metal (10mm plus in width) - bend one end to be flush with the box when it's the angle you want, then affix it (see below). You can then bend the other end to make a little foot for stability.
This pack of balloon dots are like the gum you get on the back of a new credit card and might make it so you can attach a home made stand directly to the case without any damage. I wouldn't use this with a paper case but the plastic ones should be fine.
