Whilst I don't believe any of them (probably), I can definitely see the appeal of some, they really do scratch a certain itch that makes you think "yeah I could see that happening", even in the face of various debunks. It's a fascinating mindset that these conspiracy theorists have. All good clean fun (except when it's not).
Exactly my positioning. I am fascinated by the thought processes involved.

I love the Mitchell and Webb sketch about faking the Moon Landings where it's basically pointed out that it would be more difficult and expensive to fake the Moon Landings than to actually go to the Moon.

And they would have gotten away with it, except Kubrick had to write “All work and no play…” in The Shining. All = A 11 = Apollo 11. Busted NASA!!

Conspiracy theory, I said in my last standup show, is how idiots get to feel like intellectuals. I still believe this: conspiracy theory is primarily a way for people, mainly men, to appear in the know, to use their collection of assumptions, generalisations, straw men and false inferences to say, effectively: ah, the wool may have been pulled over your eyes, my friend, but not mine.
But there are other reasons why it’s so popular these days. It provides lonely men with an online community of like-minded lonely men. It’s comforting; it’s reassuring. It provides order in a disordered universe to imagine that shadowy forces organise horrific events, rather than to have to confront the terrible truth that death and destruction happen, all the time, apparently at random. And, as David Cameron pointed out this week in his speech on extremism, it creates a way into something else that’s becoming increasingly popular these days: antisemitism.

I know this isn’t a serious thread but I thought this was a good article. Seriously, read it all.

I read it but honestly I don't think it was all that good. He groups all conspiracy theorists into one bundle of sad lonely men, and that's kind of insulting. I know this is a joke thread, but there have been loads of conspiracy theories that have been proven correct. Lumping the people that believe that the government is spying on you, and those who believe in Lizard people or a flat Earth is like how the right wing in the US group people who want free health care with those who want radical Communism.

Conspiracy theories that are correct are not conspiracy theories.
A proper conspiracy theory is usually propagated by sad lonely men and it usually ends up being the fault of the Jews.

Some “true” conspiracy theories.
http://www.cracked.com/article_25088_6- ... pened.htmlI don’t believe them though, I think these have been made up by the NSA to distract us from THE ALIENS IN AREA 53!

If you reverse area 51 then you get 15 aera. Analysis has shown that “aera” is an old term meaning “era” and so the phrase is a hidden reference to the period of time of the 15th century.
Now,
Abraham Zacuto was an astronomer of that period and his full name was Abraham ben Samuel Zacut...
Ab
raham b
en S
amuel Zacut...
AREA. Zacuto died in
1515. The crater Zagut on the Moon is named after him.
From this evidence it seems quite clear that Area 51 is an area of land dedicated solely to work investigating an alien species called Zagut whom currently live on the dark side of the Moon.
It’s hard to deny when the facts are clearly laid out.

It begs the question - why are they happy to accept NASA images that show Mars is round (it's not round, it's spherical, but anyway), yet dismiss NASA images that show Earth is round?
ABSOLUTE FUCKWITS!

Because space travel is also a conspiracy. They've seen a telescope on earth and observed Mars to be round but everything taken from space is faked
