GRcade Solves: Knife Packaging

So today while out I bought myself a new knife as I've recently moved and only have one large chef's knife in my house. The problem however is I can't get it out of the package (photo's below). I'm worried that twisting the plastic case too much will cause it to shatter and the knife to fly out and kill/maim me.

The case is made of a hard clear plastic which won't bend, it appears to be two parts, a bottom part fitted onto the top shell.

So I've come here. Can we together as a forum figure out a way to open this package?

Made in Portugal of German Steel

Feel free to ask any other questions about the knife and I will do my best to answer them.

There's an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm that deals with exactly this problem.

I have a Curb Your Enthusiasm DVD, I got it from a friend but only watched one episode as it wasn't really to my taste. Did they solve the problem in the end? Do you know what episode it happened in?

It's the whole "you need scissors to take your new pair of scissors out" situation :x

Shake it like a shake weight so it penetrates it's own way to freedom.

strawberry float blister packaging. You cut yourself more with that than you would with a pair of strawberry floating scissors.

Fill a large saucepan with water, place knife with packaging, boil until packaging has gone.

1) consume all the tic tac
2) smash the tic tac box
3) use shard of former tic tac box to pry open knife packaging
4) re assemble tic tac box
5) regurgitate tic tacs back into tic tac box
6) enjoy your new knife!

Made in Portugal of German steel?

You're strawberry floated mate, a blend of Portugal and Germany makes a knife so powerful that it's gravitational field alone holds the plastic in place. Your only option is to find a more powerful gravitational force and that only exists at the centre of the galaxy.

Tried to do this, the tip of the knife got stuck into the plastic at the top of the package. Also I'm worried this will damage the top of the knife so it's not really that practical of an option.

This isn't even blister packaging, this is just a hard plastic case.

Won't my knife then be covered in melted plastic?

This seems like the best option, will try this and report back.

But my packaging is hard plastic, not blister pack.

I still think the boiling is the best solution. The plastic coated knife will then last for ages and you are less likely to cut yourself with the dangerous sharp blade.
