I ran some tests yesterday and running Twitch shouldn't be a bother for me. Although we will need a GRcade-sized logo themed to SKSP to put in our streams. If I do come in for the Civ V game, then we'd have to ensure each side has at least one Twitcher each.

Only concern with Civ is that it is a lot of idle time between turns which might be tough on individuals trying to remain awake, especially if they are just "next turning", and what happens with people who get knocked out? Can we set the turn timers to a length that the game does run for 24hours if we go to a scored outcome, or do we not run with timers, but run the risk of getting stopped by afkers? Or do we just start afresh and do a series of games? So many questions!

While I like the idea of a 24h marathon, you do raise some good points. A series of short games with a very tight turn timer should make it exciting enough to stay awake through.

Could one of the arty types on here make some sort of Twitch template that we could all use?

Good call. At the moment I'm just sporting a GRcade logo in the bottom left of my screen, with 50% transparency so it doesn't get in the way of any UI.

What I have so far - http://www.twitch.tv/roonmastor

I've put some images with links, blurbs and that sort of thing together for the moment, so that someone who is artistic and that can understand what we need at the moment.

Edit: Obviously, this is what you can see when I'm offline.

Any Twitch streaming I've done in the past has been on XBO so I've not played with graphics etc, but I'm sure this is possible.

It could then include links, twitter stuff etc.

Can someone sort me out with a profile picture consisting of just the "ca" part of the GRcade logo?

Nice! I had to edit it slightly to make it square so it doesn't get cut off, but thanks!

We should probably set up a wordpress site or something with schedules, links etc

I'd be happy to look after this (although would need help with the design side) and I'm sure there's plenty of space on Bast! :simper:

I actually have a Wordpress site I'm not using much at the moment. I set it up for strawberry floating around and sandboxing, but I'd be happy to use it to promote this.

I've got a virtual server I run at home, but it probably couldn't handle much traffic  I think we'd be best off using the server we pay for.

Of course I'd be willing to share any such website on the social media platforms I frequent.

I think it would definitely be a good idea to have a standard GRcade/SKSP Overlay to use for our streams. It would unify the streamers under one theme and could look pretty cool. I'll have a mess about with some things and see what I can come up with.
EDIT: Here's a couple of things to look at.
This is what I just threw together. It's a modified version of the overlay I used for last years SKSP. The black would be transparent on OBS so the video layer would sit underneath it. You would put a webcam feed in the top left, with the top and bottom middle used for tickers and other information.

Not overlays, but other images I used.
This was for anytime I took a five minute break, or went for a smoke. When this was displayed I was also playing game music in the background through winamp. I used a plugin call SMG to capture the name of the track playing, which I displayed below the main text here. (Lots of Phendrana Drifts and the Corneria theme from Star Fox :datass: )

This image I used for the start of the stream while I was getting set up. I think a modified version of this would be a nice idea.

Now I'm not the best at image manipulation and stuff (Obviously) so if someone who is would like to take a shot at it then go right ahead. :D

Just to make everyone aware that Sick Kids Save Point record a podcast every couple of weeks, with a new episode just out.

I was on it the last time I did this, they're always happy to have participants getting involved. I think a mass WCW style GR invasion needs to happen on a future episode :)

Okay, I think I've got all the technical kinks out of my Twitching now so I'm good on a basic level, except for trialling a multiplayer game.

If anyone is planning to livestream this without any previous experience doing so then I do recommend getting everything rigged up about a month in advance, I've had to download a number of programs and learn from tutorials to get myself audible, remove my background noise, remove sound feedback and to stream without the framerate being inconsistent.

Non-technically, I just need to get comfortable speaking in front of a camera whilst I play and to not just mumble to myself like I usually do. Although after 23 hours I'm sure I'd be doing that anyway!

Good to hear that you've gotten the hang of streaming. Once you know how it all fits together it's actually fairly simple.

The talking over things takes getting used to. Again, just practice, practice until you do it almost subconsciously. :D

So I've been playing about with potential stream layouts for Karl's proposed GRcade broadcast, which will bring together multiple streamers and combine it into one official broadcast. My plan is to share my results tomorrow to give an idea of what we might be able to do.

The idea is that we take the streams of several people who will be taking part, capture them on another pc, mix it together with OBS and then rebroadcast it with our additional elements on top. Think of it as a sports broadcast where we cut from one event to another, with commentary chat and banter in between. Ideally we'd like to do this over the course of the weekend, covering as many of the participants as possible.

We can work out the logistics of it in the next couple of months, but it's definitely something I think could be great fun.
