THREE WEEKS TO GO TILL SKSP 2015!

Hey guys!

At this point I hope everyone is more or less ready to go. We should all be fundraising like crazy, trying to get as much as we possibly can over the next few weeks! I know from experience not to expect much from people watching streams, so friends, family and colleagues are our best bets!

I'm going to be launching my work campaign on monday, so I'll be harassing colleagues for the next few weeks to get donations.
Remember that we can also take text and online donations. THESE ARE THE PREFERRED DONATION TYPES as they show up on our total.

Anyway a couple of updates to share with you.

Victoria from the Sick Kids Friends Foundation sent out another email.
Dear Gamers

Thanks once again for signing up for this year’s Sick Kids Save Point 6. It’s wonderful to see how much interest there is in this year’s event and how many people have signed up already.

Head bands for this year’s first 20 teams to reach £20 are about to be dispatched but lets up the game and offer you a t-shirt to wear during you gaming marathon, offered to the first 20 teams to fundraise over £150! ON YOUR MARKS…

This year’s event is particularly special as Tom Freeman, the founder of the Sick Kids Save Point hopes to round up the accumulative total of £72,000 raised for the Sick Kids since 2010, to a nice neat and utterfly fantastic £100,000 and beyond and he needs your help to do it!

This year’s SKSP will fund one of our biggest projects that is Kidsnet, a safe internet provider within the hospital that allows children and their families to keep in contact with each other and with external family and friends. This helps children to feel less isolated when in hospital and also keeps them up to date with their peers and what is happening out with the wards, meaning their lives are less interrupted by illness. Kidsnet is also fantastic for providing a brilliant distraction in the form of games and films, essential to combating the boredom that children experience in hospital.

So please help us to raise the funds that will transform the experience of children in hospital so they can continue to be a child first and a patient second.

If you need anything to enhance your fundraising such as a fundraising materials or sponsor sheets then please just get in contact with myself and try and persuade friends to sign up and help promote it! Remember that you don’t have to be fit to finish this marathon.

I also have some posters that I could send to you for advertising this year’s SKSP, just let me know how many you would like and I can get them sent out to you. Places such as campus grounds and or at your office would be perfect!

Thanks again for signing up – let’s start pushing our target to make this event the biggest yet!

Vicki

I've already emailed her to ask if we can get enough Headbands and T-Shirts for each of us, so I'm just waiting to hear back from her.
I've also requested posters and sponsor forms for myself, but if anyone else would like these as well let me know and I'll PM her email address to you.

Dropbox lets you publicly share files. As long as it's not huge and it doesn't get downloaded by hundreds of people there's no issue. The 6/7 of us shouldn't be a problem.

Excellent news Karl. I assume that £70 includes the £50 you mentioned last week?

If it does can this be added to the main page.

Thanks :)

It does and I've added the link into the OP, in the Links section.

There's a chance I may have to pull out of this. Due to changes at work, I am looking for new employment, and I don't yet know if I can be free on the weekend.

Sorry to hear that, MCN, hope it's nothing bad. If you can't do it over the weekend of the 9th then another weekend that suited you would be fine if you were still up for it :)

Work have massively increased our workload, taking it beyond the main EDF call centres, while our pay is way below theirs. So I'm leaving.

That sucks to hear man. Hope you manage to get it sorted. You'll be missed when the weekend comes. :(

In streaming news I just got an Elgato Game Capture HD yesterday so I've been playing about with it. Long story short I'll be playing a ton of console games that otherwise I'd be unable to stream, or at least stream the way I wanted to. :D

Here's my most recent test stream, showcasing some of the forums Super Mario Maker levels.

My webcam is just an old android phone running an app called Droidcam X. It's not amazing, but it does the job for me.

This is my last test stream. Current internet connection is shite though and I'm dropping frames all over the place.

That's a great idea, I was going to have a killer setup for this but didn't have the funds, but I might try that, cheers.

I'm still conflicted about what I am going to play. Although it's possible for me to stream console games using one of my old graphics cards, it will be composite and so look a bit gooseberry fool. For webcam I have an old DV camcorder back up and running that should be a better picture than most things but low def. So, I think I'm going to go for PC streaming for this, it just might be a bit impersonal say at my desk! I guess it's easier to set up a set though, and I have a green screen too (which is actually just a massive sheet of fabric but hey it works).

I'm thinking to make this seem more like actual effort, I'm going to play something insanely hard like Dark Souls or possibly Metroid Prime 2, and I'll probably ramble on loads about the art style and mechanics in those games as I can't really help myself (the first time I did this was for a college research project commenting on graphical styles). So if I commit to that I can start fundraising asap, I'm sure some of my family will support me.

I did it at my desk last year, it was fine. :D

My Elgato lets me use non-HDMI inputs but I'm still undecided on them as they do look shite. Though it's the only way I've got to play a lot of my older games. Might just have to deal with it. :?

The trick is to play stuff that's not going to drive you insane for 24 hours. I did some Dark Souls last year (Nearly beat O&S on my first attempt during it as well), and it was great, but I couldn't have done any more than a couple of hours with it. I'm toying with doing Demons Souls though.

I didn't have you in the OP, but if you're in let me know what you think you could raise and I'll adjust our target to match. Also PM me your name and address and I can sort you out with a T-Shirt as well. :D

I too am having work issues; I'm now essentially working two part time jobs(call centre and tutoring) while working on a full time PhD, and have had to change shifts to accommodate everything, so I'm now working the weekend of SKSP. I've also moved flat and won't be able to get recording equipment. :fp: I won't be able to participate any more, but I will keep pushing the page wherever I can and try to get more donations.

I'm going to have to do some last minute prep for my session tonight.

Internet has been rubbish the past few days, even after an engineer came out to try and fix it.

I was getting a better signal last night but streaming still wasn't happening. The main thing is that I'm able to get my hands on some more crappy kids games for through the night, otherwise it'll be 8 hours of My Little Pony: Pinky Pie's Adventure.

There aren't enough :dread: 's in the world.

Probably for the best you aren't streaming.

When is it you're doing yours? Need to update the thread title at some point today.
