I would be willing to be on the podcast if they take guests.

I think that could be cool. Might be worth talking to NBK as I believe he already knows the guys behind SKSP.

I'm still finishing off my new gaming PC. I'm going to ramp up my fundraising efforts once it's built and I've tested with Twitch etc to make sure I can go through with it.

Guess I don't have to stream if needs be though.

Working on an overlay to use on Twitch.

Still needs some work:

The white section is transparent and hoping to find a font that matches the GRCade one.

Hey guys, well I thought it about time for a quick update.

Things have been fairly quiet for the past few weeks. I think we're still in shock at SlayerX massive donation win. :D

Anyway, we are now only 99 days away from the start of this years Sick Kids Save Point event!

This is when we need to begin pushing with our fundraising efforts. I'll be launching mine over the weekend on facebook, before spamming twitter, my blog and all my new colleagues at work. We all set our own targets and I'm very confident that we can more than meet them. Just remember that all the information you need on how people can donate is in the first post.

In other news I've been in contact with Victoria over at the Sick Kids Friends Foundation. She's been following the SKSP Team on Just Giving and is very excited to see how well we're doing so far. She's said that she'll be in touch soon with some information about a project that the money raised will be helping to support. I don't think I'm alone in saying that I'd love for us to absolutely demolish our target and help them make a real difference.

On to the actual event, has everyone decided on what they're going to play? I'm heavily considering a run through of all the Mario games from SMB onwards.
I'll still definitely be streaming it though.

Speaking of which I'm liking your overlay SlayerX. One thing I'd consider is leaving either the top or bottom bar blank, which allows you to put dynamic text elements into the stream. So you could have the address for the just giving page, which switches to the game you're currently playing after 10 seconds, then back again. Possibly even include some timers somewhere. Either way I think it would be cool if everyone who is streaming on PC had a uniform overlay that they can use. Any chance you could post up a copy once you're done making it?

I'm going for the ten games in the Resident Evil series:

Resident Evil Zero
REMake
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil: Revelations
Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Or at least as many of them as I can get through in the allotted time.

And will also be starting my fundraising efforts soon. Need to figure out how I'm setting up the streaming equipment and where I can get it from soon as well. My brother's mate should be able to sort us out. Also need co-op partners for several of the games, although I believe I have that largely wrapped up

Good stuff.

Trying to figure out the best way to deal with cash donations. In the past I then made an online donation for the same amount so that it was getting added to the total. I'll have a read of the justgiving help pages and see what they suggest.

I spoke to Victoria the other day about fund raising she is going to be sending me out some sponsor sheets so I can pass them round work.

Once I get one I could scan and upload it so people can print them off.

With regards the overlay once I have finalized it I can again upload it to be downloaded as an editable .psd as some people might want the webcam box in a different place.

The plan is to do two one for 720 and one for 1080.

I don't know that much about overlays and have just done a lot of reading and watching YouTube video's.

Started planning this out, decided to do all 24 hours in one stretch. Running Majora's Mask any% and Super Mario Galaxy any% and other games which are yet to be decided. Should be a fun night/day/hell.

I was tempted to do this last year but I'm really on the ball with it this year. I've started streaming a lot more via YouTube so hopefully can get a good audience and get a few donations before doing it.

After playing crap for 24 hours went down so well (for everyone else, it just about ended me) the first time around, I'm making a change to my schedule and will play rubbish games again during the night portion of my gameathon.

While imposing the 'kid's games' rule might add some challenge, a lot of games out there with a PEGI rating of 7 or less are great, as I'm sure you're all aware. I didn't think I'd get away with just cruising along playing Mario or Kirby so I'm going to hunt down some utter stinkers for playing through the night - Feed the Hamster, HORSES, Buy Shoes 3, you know, that kind of thing. I'll play them from about 11pm-8am so I don't have to subject my kids to them too.

I've also upped my target to £500 in the hope that the extra punishment will draw more donations :)

Some excellent points made by Cheeky Devlin on the fundraising front. Don't be afraid to ask people to sponsor you, otherwise, how will they know?! If linking to the GR sponsor page is proving too embarrassing, then the sponsor sheet that SlayerX is getting could be used instead. Or mobile donations. Or just taking the money directly from their wallet. Ignore that. All I mean is there are plenty of ways to ask people to donate so there shouldn't be anything stopping you from spreading the word of what you're going to be putting yourself through and the reason you're doing it.

GO GET 'EM, GUYS.

See, I knew that, but then I talked myself into doubt so I put it there just in case.

Yo, if you got a hold of any sponsor sheets I'd be grateful for a copy. Just stick a screenshot in a PM and send it my way. If not, no worries it would just save me making a fool of myself again which, as I've already shown, isn't too difficult....

So, although I'll try my best to do something live-action, having had a bit of a play with the technology recently it looks like I might have neither the laptop power nor the quality of internet connection to stream and I don't want to do something really disappointing and frustrating from the perspective of people watching. I'd still of course like to be a part of raising money (in any case I've already started - I have £30 now!) so do we think it is acceptable to record my 24 hours in advance, perhaps clean it up a bit, and then release the video on YouTube during the challenge period?

I know this is technically "cheating" but I would still love to take part despite the technical limitations I have.

This would also free me up to take on more of a technical and/or administrative role during the streaming. I could potentially contribute voice commentary via Mumble or whatever too, it's just that recording and streaming video isn't working great. :(

That wouldn't be cheating :) There have been folk in previous years who have done their sessions outwith the main weekend for one reason or another. The only downside for yourself is that it might be a bit lonely for you while you're doing it :( If you were ok about doing that *and* providing support during the weekend? Whaddaguy

I wouldn't worry too much about the streaming side of it. A lot of people get just as much out of it by following and contributing via Twitter and Facebook. So don't see it as a disaster if the steaming doesn't go to plan :)

Still waiting on the sponsor form chased yesterday.

Once I have it Ill upload it somewhere for everyone to use.

Quick question about overlays and forgive my ignorance is there a way to play games and see the overlays as the people viewing the stream would ?

Yes, but you need more than one monitor.

In OBS right click on the preview window and choose "Projector>Monitor x" with x being the monitor you want it to display on. It'll then give you a fullscreen view of what's being broadcast. Really handy to make sure games are being captured properly. If you embed your twitch chat into the stream as well, it'll let you see that in real-time too.

I'm currently tweaking my own overlays and screens right now. I'm happy enough with my screen for 4x3 games, but my 16x9/16x10 needs some work.

I've already gotten a basic version of the 4x3 running in OBS with some live elements over the top.

My webcam is just an old android phone running an app called Droidcam X. It's not amazing, but it does the job for me.

This is my last test stream. Current internet connection is shite though and I'm dropping frames all over the place.

Make sure you've set OBS to connect to the Euro server! It is auto to US.
