Bottom left is just a non colour version of top right in Osaka.

Centre is in the Fuji Five Lakes area

Taken from post a while ago...

For food I recommend these places...

Mustafa's Gemüse Kebab. Really strawberry floating tasty. You need to get a kebab in Berlin anyway, but this was sublime. Also next to a good currywurst place.

Doyum Grillhaus. In a bit of a gritty part of the city but we really enjoyed our meal. I had kebab on top of soft aubergine.

Scheers Schnitzel by Eastside Gallery Berlin Wall was a pleasant surprise. Lovely schnitzel sandwiches with various toppings. I had classic and my gf had chilli.

Leibhaftig is a microbrewery that does German style tapas small plates. Very nice beer.

Bäckerei Alpenstück good coffee and breakfast. Tasty pretzels

We did the natural history museum today, there was a lot of taxidermy. Felt a bit sad for Bobby the gorilla, he only lived to be nine years old. The dinosaur fossils were amazing though, especially the brachiosaurus and Tristan the t-rex.

We went to the zoo afterwards and it was a bit strange seeing live animals instead of stuffed ones

I never thought I would wait an hour in line for a kebab, but I did today. Absolutely fantastic though, great recommendation.

Only one day left in Berlin now, there's so much left to see and do. Managed to get tickets for Hertha Berlin v RB Leipzig tomorrow evening so am looking forward to that.

Ha, glad you liked it! An hour is mental! My gf went back the other day and only waited about 5 mins! Granted that was at about 2am...

We have very nice kebabs here in Hamburg but that Berlin one was easily the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot kebabs. I will certainly go back when I next visit.

Is there some kind of cheap deal to Japan going on? Every time I go on Facebook some new person is going to/is in Japan. It's like when all of a sudden everyone started going to Iceland a year or 2 ago.

Great for finding deals if you don't care about when you're going. Right now I'm seeing this for a flight from the airport close to me...

Which is in Canadian dollars and works out to be 281.61 GBP. Seems like a pretty good deal to me!

That is good. But is there a reason it's getting cheaper? Everyone was going to Iceland due to that cheap airline that was introduced (I think). I'm just surprised Tokyo seems to randomly have become the place everyone is going to this year.

Ah that may be it.

Anyway, me and my gf are planning a multi destination trip. Possibly the Balkans. We loved Croatia so want to see a bit more of that area, especially as it's good value. Anyone have any advice, or a good route, or trains etc?

From Hamburg there are flights to Macedonia for €28 which seems rather good. Obviously need to see if the place it gets into is worth it or easy to get to other places.

We are thinking maybe Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and Albania (no particular order).

I did a tour by a guy called Bata, at Hostel Majdas in Bosnia, and it was one of the best and most memorable things I've ever done in my life. If there's even a chance you'll do it don't look anything up, just go.

Where did you end up going?

We've talked about exploring more of the Balkans too, really fancy Montenegro.

We're planning driving to Rovinj again, going from Calais to Colmar then through Switzerland to the Italian lakes. From there to Venice for a few days then onto Rovinj.

We aim to explore Pula and some of the villages inland and perhaps spend a few days on Krk.

Then back up through Austria, Germany and Belgium, possibly spending a day in Bruges

I was planning on spending two days in Paris next week Monday to Wednesday but deciding to call it off because Im too busy at work. I only booked the eurostar for £60 return so no major loss. Just don't feel like going there on my own. I haven't even booked the hotel yet.
I'll just stay in London instead over the weekend and return Monday. Think i got carried away with the cheap eurostar tickets on offer at the time...but the seat offer seems to still be on lol

In Croatia? We went to Split. Then a couple of the islands, I think Hvar and Brac. Lovely place. Way better than I was expecting to be honest.

Venice sounds really sad now. They are talking about charging tourists to go into the squares etc. Plus with al the giant cruise ships uglying up the place I'm kinda glad I went years ago.

I recommend Hamburg if in Germany.

Croatia has it all really, but it's a shame everyone seems to be finding that out as it's getting busier and more expensive.

I visited Venice 2 years ago and loved it. Yeah it was busy but it didn't detract from its beauty. I would like to explore the less touristy parts like Castello and Cannaregio this time.

As much as I'd like to visit Hamburg, I don't think I can justify adding an extra 400 miles on what is already a 2500 mile round trip :D

When is it cheapest to book flights? Is there a specific day of the week and time that you search for flights?
Recently I noticed that Thursdays I have found cheap flights. I am going to Hong Kong in July and yesterday saw flights for £455 on Lufthansa but today they have gone up to £605. Absolutely gutted I didn't book...not sure if to book tonight or wait until next Thursday hmmm
