I have watched the Expedia Sydney youtube video and it doesn't actually look that good compared to places like LA, Vegas, New York etc...please tell me Sydney is worth going to?

Btw I have never been to Australia before.

Sydney is worth going to.

Thanks, definitely want to go there now. Maybe stay in a hostel or something as I'm travelling solo

Just booked to go to Paris for 3 nights next week! Never been to France before so looking forward to it. Gonna book my tickets for the Lourve and Eiffel Tower to avoid any queues, go see Notre Dame and then the gate/arch thing. Not much else planned yet.

Bucharest is pretty great. I can't remember doing all that much touristy stuff there, but it was great for a night out. I got taken to a gay club and mildly felt up by a group of gay Hungarian guys who I didn't even realise were gay until the next day, and it's a pretty good place if you're looking to pull (women). The Palace of the Parliament is worth a visit (one of the biggest building in the world, and apparently has gooseberry fool loads of secret nuclear bunkers and stuff) and I did a free walking tour that was pretty interesting. I also got lost at night coming out of the station and wandered into this neighbourhood where every house is guarded by stray dogs that the owners feed. I've genuinely not been as scared in a long time.

Off to Thailand for 2 weeks on Friday :D
Think the plan is a couple of nights in Bangkok then jump a bus to Krabi and spend most of the time on the islands like Koh Phangan and Koh phiphi

Bangkok to Krabi is a long way on a bus. Isn't there an internal flight you can catch?

Yeah there is actually, think we’ll probably go with that instead.

You can get an overnight train, with AC and a bed to Surat Thani and then a connecting bus to Krabi too. Obviously flying is a lot quicker and more comfortable but worth checking costs in case there’s a big difference and you’re on a budget etc.

Going to Ukraine later this week with a bunch of people. While I'm looking forward to going, I am not looking forward to the 3 am flight out there.

But I get to do one of those guided tours of Chernobyl though so that should be pretty cool.

Has anyone been to Ukraine before? Is it worth getting some USD/EUR out and getting them changed at the bank over there, or should I just get my spending money out of a cash machine when I get over there?

Cheers i looked into that as i thought it might be nicer to do it the backpacker way and see the countryside etc. but the flights are only 30 quid one way so think the easy option will be getting taken!

Anyone been to Bali/the surrounding areas? Got any recommendations as to where to stay, what to do bar the obvious beach/bars/clubbing.

Got some good travel plans booked in.

Going Amsterdam next week for the weekend with the wife, in laws and sister in law.

Also booked 5 days in Lisbon in may.

Another two places ticked off the list

Ubud is a really nice area in the centre and different from the beaches/clubbing area. Has the Tegalalang Rice Terrace, temples and waterfalls. A lot of fun to explore and you can get amazing accommodation for very cheap. I'd recommend the Athaya if you go, we paid £25 a night and it was incredible value. I suspect it may have gone up in price by now though as it had just opened when we went.

There's a volcano you can hike, Mount Batur, although it erupted recently so I don't know if you still can.

Tanah Lot is a pretty cool temple off the coast you can visit. Ulawatu in the south has a really beautiful coastline apparently (although we didn't visit it, just head from others).

If you have time, Java, the Gilli Islands (Gilli T for dirty party/Gilli Air for chill, can scuba/snorkel from all 3) and Lombok are short boat journeys away. Lombok is really beautiful and much quieter than Bali. Java has Ijen and Bromo volcanoes which are incredible (but if you can Batur on Bali maybe not worth it.). It also has Prambanan and Borobudur temples (kind of Indonesia's Angkor Wat) but they've very central so would be a long journey. Internal flights are cheap if you have time

Avoid Kuta. Aussie Benidorm. We stayed in Canggu which is further up the coast from Kuta and was pretty nice, more of a laidback surfer vibe.

I don't think he is active anymore, but we had a member that went to live there for a few years. His thread might have some interesting information.

I was going to make a new topic but thought I'd just ask in here first. I'm planning on leaving Germany by the end of the year to live outside of Europe. I know there are a handful of folk who live in Asia, but can't remember who exactly.

I'm struggling to really know where to even look for advice as obviously everyone is different. My girlfriend is on a lot of forums, but mostly they are women only, so the advice she is getting is obviously from a female perspective.

If anyone here lives in Asia, or even South America can you let me know, and if it's ok can I PM a bunch of questions?

Thank you, kindly.
