Anybody ever been to La Tomatina? Got a mate who wants to go this year. The package price seems pretty good, and I like the idea, but I'm not sure the reality of throwing tomatoes/being pelted by tomatoes at/from hundreds of other people is really that pleasurable.

Had a week in Sorrento recently and I loved every minute. I'd argue that it was our best holiday ever but then I'd also that it's because I'm getting old and I worry less.

It's probably that the latter is true. I like being an aged.

I've not been but I know someone who has. He said it was fun, but it's relentless and he had people throwing them at his face point blank, then having to shield his Mrs as people were just bombarding her with them. He also said you get people picking armfulls of the trodden slushy ones from the floor and shoving it down your back and down your trousers

Sorrento was the first time I had been abroad, we visited Pompeii and walked up Vesuvius, I was only six but I honestly remember it like it was yesterday, everything from where we stayed to what we ate its all really very vivid, it was all beautiful and the Amalfi coast was stunning

The wife and I are heading to the UK next week and need power socket adapters for our various electronics, and we were wondering if we'd be better off getting something off Amazon, or just getting something in the inevitable Samsonite shops we encounter in the Cincinnati, Toronto and Dublin airports? I don't recall seeing any US-UK only adapter packs in the shops, which is what we'd prefer.

To be honest you can buy them for £5-10 in most supermarkets and train stations etc. I wouldn't worry too much, probably get it cheaper in a pound land or Wilko or somewhere like that though.

Buy a single adapted and bring along an extension cord.

Why an extension cord?

One adapted plug + extension cord = 4 things from home plugged in.

That's pretty good to be fair. I have amassed a collection of adapters that I can never find when I'm going away.

You mean a surge protector?

You can have a surge protector on an extension cord but not every extension cord will have a surge protector.

I presume you're mostly talking about charging phones etc. In which case look out for something like this. Obviously the more USB ports the better.

Don't concern yourself with voltages and whatnot. Sometime my mates get all paranoid and start buying bulky adapters over the 120v/230v thing but smartphones and USB chargers work between 100v-240v.

Laptops obviously won't work with the above USB plugs, in which case you should just need a straight US to UK adapter like this. Just make sure your power brick is rated 100v-240v (Apple ones are, I assume other manufacturers will be the same). Don't pay more than a few quid for the above.

Two phones, two tablets and a 3DS, but the tablets can be on rotation and don't need daily charging like a well used phone.

Opting for these two dealies. They should see us fine.

Edit: Car rentals. I was gonna do Avis, since they were cheap. Were. Like a week ago it was maybe $45 for a day's rental (as opposed to $80+ for the other big rental companies), but I was waiting for pay day, and now it's twice that. Priceline sorted me with a deal almost as good as Avis' earlier one, thankfully, but not knowing who you're renting with until you pay is just... It's scary. Got Hertz, so not great but not the worst I suppose. Only need to car to poke around Toronto for a few hours next Friday while we wait for our connecting flight.

Staying in Riga for August then moving to Porto from September for a while, brushing up on some Portuguese already. If anyone has any tips for either hit me up

I dated someone from Portugal for around two weeks the best phrase I learned was “eu não falo português”
