Will do Snowden one day (with the best weather), not too sure what else to do, anyone been in the area and have any suggestions? If not there are plenty of other walks we can do.

It's Snowdon (sorry couldn't resist).

Anyway, Betws is a nice enough place, you can walk up and down the river there and go for a swim and stuff. Snowdon itself is a bit of a boring mountain, but I guess if you're not from the area it's the one to climb. If you want more of an interesting climb that involves some scrambling, i'd reccommend Tryfan. But again, not for a cassual hiker this one.

If you do go up Snowdon there is a nice greecy spoon called Pete's eats in Llanberis you can eat at before or after.

The zipline is fun yes, quite pricey. Surf snowdonia is also good. Electric mountain is interesting, but underground. There is some sort of underground trampoline thing around there too.

Port Merion as recommended earlier is another nice place, probably about 30 mins away towards Portmadog. Basically a little Italian town, created by some rich aristocrat. You could probably do port Merion and the Zipline in a day.

One last tip....the A55 on a Friday afternoon is chocker bloke full of Brummies and Scousers commuting to the Welsh coast. Leave early, or take the A5, it's a sodding nightmare in the summer.

My bad :fp:

We aren't really hikers so Snowdon is the what we are aiming for, will probably do one of the easier trails as well.

How easy (and costly I guess) would it be to get to Port Merion from Betws-y-Coed? Hard good things about it before so would be great to do a day there.

And we are getting the train on Sunday (coming back Wednesday) so we should be good for missing the rush, but thanks for the heads up!

Taking the kids on a mini road trip in August. It is basically the first leg of the trip we did last year, but instead of Colmar we are going to Strasbourg.
We are camping in a municipal camp site that is 20 minutes walk from Petit France.

I took them on a surprise trip to Scotland last year (I told them we were going to the library), so I have taken what they loved about that and ramping it up to the max.

All they know so far is we are getting a ferry to Calais (had to get them passports so couldn’t really do the library surprise again).

I'm making a trip to the states in September and thing I'm going to extend it by about a week. I basically now have 4 nights free, which I'm not sure what to do with (Need to leave Milwaukee Tuesday and be in Jacksonville on Saturday). Has anyone got any suggestions what to do? I don't particularly want to go further west fro Milwaukee, and I've done most standard US tourist things already. (Vegas, New York, San Fran, Boston, Mt Rushmore, and a few more random places).

Anyone been to Hawaii? Specifically Oahu and Honolulu. Going for five days in September, so we probably won't have time to do more than that island, but if anyone's been before and has any recommendations, as beyond Pearl Harbour, the museum and walking up diamond head, I'm going because basically it's a magnet for Japanese tourists.

Also Bunni, not sure if you'll actually read this, but I noticed you're off to Singapore. I did the Night Safari at the zoo there which was decent enough. When I was at Marina Bay Sands the pool was absolutely rammed, might have been because there was the Grand Prix just a day or so before. Just full of people trying to get that perfect Instagram shot to show off.

I'm guessing you've seen the alsace storks then?

Only ever stopped in that area at service stations, but at one last year, i did get to see them.

No, not seen them before. We only stayed in Colmar for one night before heading on to Lauterbrunnen, so a lot of the time was spent eating flammenkuchen and stocking up on lovely lovely wine.

Might see them this time though as we will be in the area for longer.

Did you slip in a single "It's not unusual" for the full effect?

Annoying. I just noticed that if I'd book my flights for one week before, I would have saved 100 euros. I hate how you can't strawberry floating cancel flights without getting screwed on cancellation fees.

Think I'm going to go to New Orleans. Really want to do an airboat trip on the Bayou. Anyone got any recommendations, either of a tour or anything else to do? Would really prefer not to drive.

Yeah I can imagine being rich in Singapore to be particularly pleasant. I just felt like I was living a lie - by blowing in three days what you would normally spend in about three months back home.

Yeah, it was great fun in pure luxury but only did the one night. Arrived in Hong Kong tired and desperate for a rest. Ended up in McDonald’s where some old dude was wanking under the counter. Back to reality I guess.

Only just caught this! I went to Honolulu for a week in January, it's frigging incredible. Here's a couple of things I think are worth your time:

For activities:
The Polynesian Cultural Centre- Fascinating displays and recreations of the traditional daily lives and cultures of the Polynesian islands. They have an amazing Luau dinner package with an unbelievable stage show called Ha: Breath of Life. It's really pricey, but it really is a sight to behold.

Hanauma Bay- A crescent moon-shaped beach on the southeastern coast with gorgeous scenery, crystal clear water and some incredible coral reefs teeming with fish only a few meters out. Buy or rent some cheap snorkeling gear, this place is perfect for it. I saw an octopus!

As for food...:
Rainbow Drive-in- This place was featured on Guy Fieri's program, and for good reason. Crazy good plate lunches (rice, mac salad and a meat entrée) for around $9. The vast majority of the menu is gooood gooseberry fool, but particularly the Loco Moco and the Shoyu Chicken. The shoyu chicken is so good, in fact, we dug around for the recipe and now make it at home!

Leonard's Bakery- Two minutes down the road from Rainbow, this place is famous for its malasadas, which are basically just fried doughnuts. But they're strawberry floating good doughnuts. To the point that this place constantly has a queue out of the door.

Genki Sushi- This is just a generic chain sushi restaurant, and there quite a few dotted around. But their sushi is brilliant, their chicken katsu curry is delicious, and it is Stupid. Cheap. Two of us had a katsu bowl, three conveyor belt sushi plates and a (bottomless) drink each, and it cost us Thirty-Five Dollars.
[Disclaimer: I am a very white Englishman whose frame of reference starts and ends with Yo! Sushi, which is gooseberry fool.]

Oh, and try a spam musubi. You can get them literally everywhere.
