Just like the PFA then. If you can't vote for your team's player, then vote for someone who isn't their main rival for the spot.

again another confusing post by you Dan , who would be the rival do you mean pires if so then no i was never as impressed about pires as i was with Mcmanaman. I'm not one of these silly fans who would never vote for an arsenal fan because i am a spurs fan in fact Henry will be my choice for one of the strikers as he was amazing.

Giggs is consistently voted as the bet Left Winger ever in the Premier Leage in pretty much every pool I've ever seen for it, but lets just ignore that and put it down to personal bias, shall we?

Giggs is far from an obvious choice and your (understandable) bias towards him is preventing you from seeing that - yes, he's won more trophies than anyone else, yes, he's played for a remarkable amount of time and yes, in his prime he was a superb winger. But not the best winger we've seen in this league and he certainly didn't maintain that peak as long as some other players in the same position - and he also played in a much superior team. For all those reasons I'd argue that Bale, for one, is a better left winger. Yes, Giggs often receives accolades for his career (or at least, he did until all those stories about his personal life broke). But those awards are for his longevity. His Sports Personality award was simply a lifetime achievement award. He's never won PFA or Football Writer's Player of the Year because his feats are impressive due to the sheet length time they've been achieved in and sustained for, but he's never been world-class for a solid season, unlike the likes of Bale, Ronaldo, Henry etc.

Mafro wrote:Just out of interest, who did you vote for?

No-one, I missed the first rounds. If I were to vote it would be for Bale.

that statement about spurs and then counting west ham just makes no sense. :?

Yes it does. You're a London club on the rise nervously looking over your shoulder at a historic threat. No-one except West Ham seriously considers West Ham a 'big club', but out of sheer pessimism I can understand why Spurs fans would always tread with care.

Calm down. This was not a comment made as an attack on you. Mockmaster brought up the PFA Player of the Year awards' rule where no-one is allowed to vote for a player from their own club. In response to this you mentioned that to comply with this rule you'd change your vote to McManaman - a player no-one had mentioned previously. Which is very much akin to the way players at certain clubs vote for players not expected to compete for the award, so as to not aid their rivals and act to the detriment of their own players' chances. For example, I'd happily bet that not one Manchester United player voted for Suarez for this year's award, and that not one Liverpool player voted for van Persie. (Which might explain why Hazard ended up on the shortlist...)

Who would be better than Giggs and Pires to be considered into the all time premier XI, in your opinion? :fp:

Ronaldo
Henry
Cantona
Scholes
Zola
Gerrard
Ashley Cole
Schmeichel
Bale
Lampard
Suarez
Bergkamp
Roy Keane
van Persie

off the top of my head.

But because we have to play 4-4-2 many of those won't make it in.

Also, I was wrong to say Giggs has never won the PFA Player's Player of the Year award before.

But Giggs is one of the best players in the Premiership.

I can't believe that I'm defending a Man Utd player. :fp:

What's embarrassing is the drivel you're coming out with. It sounds like the stuff you'd see from the tedious wind-up merchants on Football365.

You're a mod and you're completely refusing to engage in discussion on this simply because I have the nerve to question the received wisdom that Giggs is the greatest left winger in Premier League history. No, I'd say yours is more embarrassing.

"in his prime he was a superb winger" makes me a 'tedious wind-up merchant'

What's the point in having a discussion thread if you're not even going to accept discussion? It's a wee bit pathetic. Spoiler alert: here's the rest of your team for you.

LM: Giggs
CM: Scholes
CM: Gerrard
FW: Cantona
FW: Henry

You're allowed to disagree with someone's point of view without being a massive bellend, but I guess this was just too sensitive a subject for you to manage that, eh? Maybe next time. :simper:

This is going to be even more fun when we have to vote for a manager.

I wouldn't have thought that would be anything other than straightforward. As the only manager to have been there for every single Premier League season, as well as having won most of them, Ferguson would be the only logical choice - anyone else would be very surprising.

The fact that you think Gareth Bale deserves to be in an all-time Premership 11 over Ryan Giggs is nonsense and doesn't really deserve discussion, really. Come back to me in 15 years or so and lets compare their respective careers at that point.

Keane over Gerrard and Shearer over Cantona, and that will most likely be the correct team.

Still not getting it  How to moderate a discussion forum: "all opinions welcome, apart from those I don't agree with." We're obviously not going to agree on this: I think what I think, and you think what I think has no right to be discussed, so let's just leave it here (as that's a far more diplomatic way of either of us saying that we give up).

Mafro wrote:Keane over Gerrard and Shearer over Cantona, and that will most likely be the correct team.

I think you're overestimating quite how much support Shearer will receive. As well as underestimating the support GRcade's resident Liverpool fans will lend to Gerrard.
