I have gushed countless times on this board and its predecessors over this game so one more won’t hurt.

Resi 4 was a game that delivered in every measure you could crave from a Resident Evil game. Suspense, drama, action, audiovisuals, nuance, intrigue, mystery, plot… the list goes on. It is correctly revered as one of the best games of its time and indeed all-time. One intangible for me personally is the time of my life the game was released in. I’ve such great memories of this game both in the main story, the side stories and Mercenaries which take me back to a time when I had slightly less responsibility and far more free time to properly appreciate gaming. Sharing strategies and other tidbits with other forumites, discussing theories, the various set-pieces the game offers, the characters and how their stories progress during a time when this place was probably at its peak.

And speaking of peaks, RE4 has plenty of them. What sealed that I was playing the best game ever for me was after escaping the village (1-1 to 2-3), a passage of chapters that I considered to be the greatest section of any game I have played, the castle section (3-1 to 4-4) was somehow even better. The island in chapter 5 was probably my least favourite of the 3 main locations but even that is top tier. There are numerous set pieces which stick in the mind (the village assault, the cabin siege etc) but as an overall package this for me is near unbeatable.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Skyrim

I sunk countless hours into this whilst at uni, and is probably the main reason I didn't get a 1st.

The music, the visuals, the combat, the exploration, the story, the characters, the companions (RIP in peace Lydia :( ), the loot (by Talos, the loot!), the Dragons, the Elves, the Nords, the snow, the wind, the sun, the stars, the sky, the Daedra, the tombs, the castles, the palaces, the swamps, the forests, the crafting, the books, the lore, the Bards, the Mages, the Greybeards, Sons of Skyrim..... the life :datass:

I strawberry floating loved Skyrim when it first came out, and I still love it now.

I mean I love TES and I'm playing through an imperial run of Skyrim right now in fact, but lets not pretend the combat is actually good

I mean "the combat" in a more wishy-washy emotional side, as in "take that!" and "wallop" and "have at you with my enchanted mace" etc. Can't beat it 8-)

I'm almost tempted to change my vote to Fallout 3 because it's a complete outrage that it doesn't appear in the list. But, no, I'll stick with Pro Evo.

I'll vote for Deus Ex. The graphics may have aged poorly (though mods can help), but the writing and gameplay are still - 15 years later - totally unmatched. It combines the pace, excitement, and tension of a stealth FPS with a genuinely interesting and (we now know) prescient narrative befitting of the best RPGs -- a story which actually has coherent things to say about politics and philosophy.

Do you have a single fact to back that up?

(Mine is also Deus Ex)

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

A game to stand the test of time.

If you pressed me for the best it'd obviously have to be Civ 5 at the moment. But the original has probably had more impact on me personally that any other single videogame...although SWOS would probably get a pretty close second.

I would add Eternal Darkness.

But if it came down to Kung Fu Master or ED, I'd take Kung Fu.

Doom 2 because I could actually play it forever and not get bored (20 years and counting).

I didn't really get into Deus Ex so much as I did Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines... but I can't really peg that as a "favorite" because it falls apart so completely later on.

Looks like Dark Souls, Deus Ex and OOT are GRcade's favourite games. I can't really argue with that.

Football Manager.

I don't know how many hours I put into this as I used to play with 2 friends on the same PC and we'd spend entire weekends battling it out to see who could get from the old division 2 to the top.
Drinking contests with this were bloody brutal with drinks for goals and losses.
