I mean, okay, so my votes don't get discounted I'll say this: I'm posting in a tongue in cheek way because I know everyone will disagree with me, but I actually don't really like any indie games. I've never played an indie game I've thought was 'great' and I've only thought a couple were even 'good'. IMO they are often low-effort bollocks that trick people into liking them through sheer pretension.

A GameMaker-level pixel-graphics platformer with a chiptune soundtrack and auto-generated sound effects that blagged its way to 9s and 10s because it made wanky reviewers remember their dead dog and have a little cry (or whatever) might still be kinda fun (despite my vitriol!) but shouldn't be anywhere near a list of the top 100 best ever games.

Obviously I'm constructing a kind of straw indie game there but I am serious about vetoing them so please count my votes.

That is really not something I expected to hear from you, Karl (though I actually partially agree with what you're saying), I just don't think you should tar all 'indie games' with the same brush. Undertale, for example, probably fits the description of the kind of game you clearly hate. And I hate it too. Probably unreasonably, but I think there's a point where your visuals and presentation are so bad that it doesn't matter if it's deliberate or a homage or whatever.

I'm annoyed because none of the games I listed fall into that category. They're almost all systems-based design masterpieces. Or super atmospheric and niche games that would never otherwise be made if it wasn't for one guy in his basement. Admittedly some of them I listed purely because I thought nobody would veto them because they've never heard of or played them, but they're all still very good games. Better than the majority of 'AAA' stuff that I now largely ignore.

Serious challenge: pick your favourite; I will play it this weekend and if I like it I will rescind my veto of it. I don't know if it will make any difference (my bet is that the whole list will be vetoed over the next few days  ) but you might open my eyes to a great indie game.

Sorry - didn't realise this

Those that aren't are the winners here, surely?

Whichever you think looks best out of FTL, Invisible Inc or Duskers. The former is as close as video games have ever come to a Star Trek simulation, the middle has made it so I can't play Xcom anymore because it's so much more tightly designed and the latter is to Alien what FTL is to Star Trek. Duskers is probably the least amazing of the three, but it has a special place in my heart.

I genuinely can't believe you haven't played these games before.

Haven't played Duskers but both FTL and Invisible, Inc. are great games irrespective of their indie roots.

I'm not sure if I'd say the latter is better than XCOM though as it definitely doesn't have the wide variety of content present in its AAA 'cousin'.

The threads an interesting idea but the amount of people going out of their way to ruin it makes the whole exercise pointless.

I vetoed some of those as I genuinely don't like the. Like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, there's some cool things about them, but I don't find them enjoyable and the jank you sometimes get is shocking. Oh, but there isn't jank in those games, oh it's ok in those games, they get a pass. Bollocks.

You should have to leave a game review, or a game that's better in its genre or something if you're going to veto. That way you can only veto if you've played it

This idea of vetoing all games you haven't played, because otherwise you're endorsing their place on the list. It's bullshit. OR tried to do something different here. If everyone voted like that, all we'd end up with is a list of games that most people have played. Also, a universally admired, best game ever released would be axed if three people happened not to have owned the system it was released on.

You veto vomiters ought to recognise the more informed opinions of the people who have played the games, instead of inflicting your ignorance on the list. Bitches.
